[Hiring] Bilingual Chinese and English Outreach Worker @Asian Pacific Environmental Network

Role Description

APEN seeks to hire a team of outreach workers to participate in APEN’s civic engagement programs. This is a temporary non-exempt part-time position aimed at increasing the civic participation of low-income Asian immigrant communities in California.

• Talk to up to 40 people per shift about issues facing low-income communities.
• Data entry of phonebanking results.
• Complete accurate daily reports.

Qualifications

• Commitment to the mission and principles of APEN and to social justice.
• Fluent in English, Cantonese and/or Mandarin.
• Strong motivation and adaptability, including ability to work under pressure and with deadlines.
• Basic computer skills, ability to complete web forms.
• Able to work weekdays and potentially weekends.
• Have access to a computer and stable internet for our phone banking program.
• Ability to come in-person to one of APEN’s offices to show I-9 Documentation.

Requirements

• Experience working in Asian immigrant communities.
• Able to give and receive constructive feedback.

Benefits

• Hourly rate of $23.
• Sick pay and an internet and phone stipend based on hours worked at the end of the program.

Accessibility and Working Conditions

• This position will require applicants to work on a computer daily for long periods of time.
• Collaboration with staff through Zoom, email, and other digital platforms.
• Expected to be remote with the exception of coming into any APEN office 1 time to show required I-9 Documentation.
• Follow APEN’s COVID safety policies and protocols regarding in-person work.
• Masks are required to be worn in APEN offices and indoor events, with the exception of eating and drinking.
• All employees are required to be vaccinated as part of our safety policy or be subject to weekly testing.
• This position requires work during irregular hours including on nights and/or weekends.
• No requirement for carrying or moving heavy equipment, regularly ascending or descending a ladder, or standing or sitting for long periods of time.
• No requirement for working in hazardous or unusual conditions such as outdoors in inclement weather.
