Role Description

UNICEF Innocenti is advancing a growing portfolio of work focused on intergenerational governance and participation, youth foresight, climate education, and broader systems transformation processes. Across these initiatives, children and young people are recognized not only as beneficiaries, but as critical partners, researchers, innovators, and contributors to more inclusive, participatory, and youth-informed futures.

The purpose of this consultancy is to support the planning, coordination, dissemination, and strategic visibility of communications, storytelling, and engagement outputs linked to the work of the Intergenerational Governance and Participation (IGP) team and related youth participation, foresight, climate education, and governance initiatives implemented by UNICEF Innocenti.

Building on earlier design and launch phases, the consultancy will support the continued development and implementation of communications, advocacy, dissemination, and engagement strategies across interconnected IGP workstreams, with a focus on the Youth Fellowship on Climate Education. The consultant will contribute to strengthening the visibility, coherence, and strategic amplification of IGP initiatives and outputs by supporting:

  • Communications planning
  • Storytelling
  • Dissemination activities
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Knowledge translation processes across global learning, policy, and partnership platforms

The consultancy will support UNICEF Innocenti’s broader work on youth participation, intergenerational governance, climate education, foresight, and anticipatory governance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Climate, Education, Research, Writing or another technical field relevant to the work of UNICEF.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Development Communication, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Communications, Development Communication, International Affairs, Public Policy, or a related field is an advantage.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of professional experience in communications, public engagement, advocacy, or knowledge management, preferably within international development, climate, or youth-focused initiatives.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing communications plans, dissemination strategies, and multichannel campaigns.
  • Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex research, foresight, and policy content into accessible and compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience producing a range of communications products (e.g., briefs, reports, digital content, visibility assets, advocacy materials).
  • Experience coordinating communications across multiple stakeholders, including youth networks, partners, and institutional teams.
  • Strong understanding of digital communications, audience engagement, and content dissemination strategies (including social media and virtual platforms).
  • Ability to document and synthesize insights from initiatives, identifying key trends, enablers, barriers, and emerging practices.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong editorial and content curation capacity.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, timelines, and collaborative processes simultaneously.
  • Experience supporting events, convenings, or global moments (e.g., campaigns, launches, workshops) from a communications perspective.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multicultural, distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with youth engagement, climate action, or intergenerational governance considered an asset.

Language

  • Fluency in English required; additional languages an asset.
