Role Description

The position is located under the Climate Technology Innovation Unit (TCS/CMP/CTI) under the supervision of the Head. The Unit is responsible for supporting Member States in fostering innovation across technologies, finance, policy and regulation to promote the emergence, deployment and large-scale up-take of low-carbon and climate adaptation solutions and business practices.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and close cooperation with the project team in the HQ and field location, the expert will be responsible for the performance of the following main duties:

• Prepare the initial PARS communications and knowledge-management materials and organizational arrangements.
• Review relevant PARS Global and National Child Project documentation.
• Prepare an initial draft of the PARS communication protocols.
• Organize and maintain the shared PARS communications folder and content repository.
• Prepare initial drafts of PARS branding and communication resources.
• Prepare an initial draft of the PARS Knowledge Management, Communication and Advocacy Action Plan.
• Prepare an initial draft of the PARS communication strategy and Y1 calendar of key events and showcases.
• Other emerging communication tasks related to the project as requested by the Project Manager.

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in communication, journalism, public relations, international relations or other relevant discipline required.
• At least 3 years of practical experience in public relations, communications, and production of diverse marketing and communication materials across broadcast and online media is required.
• Experience in tailoring key messages to different target audiences is required.
• Advanced knowledge of and proficiency with multiple creative applications required, including Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, Final Cut Pro and website editing software is desirable.
• Demonstrated experience in preparing clear, audience-appropriate communication and knowledge products is required.
• Experience coordinating communication activities with multiple stakeholders is required.
• Familiarity with UN system communication, visibility and reporting standards is highly desirable.
• Experience contributing to the development of communication and visibility strategies is highly desirable.
• Experience evaluating needs, conditions and problems in developing countries is desirable.
• Experience preparing communication and dissemination materials for technical methodologies is desirable.
• Experience managing or contributing content to digital platforms is desirable.
• Experience preparing and coordinating communications for virtual or in-person events is desirable.
• Experience communicating on climate adaptation, innovation, private-sector development is desirable.
• Prior exposure to gender-responsive and youth-inclusive communication initiatives is desirable.
• Familiarity with UNIDO’s mandate and operational modalities is desirable.

Requirements

• Fluency in written and spoken English and French is required.
• Fluency and/or working knowledge of another official UN language, or other language, particularly Portuguese is desirable.
