Role Description

Join the Cleveland Clinic team, where you will work alongside passionate caregivers and provide patient-first healthcare. We are seeking a highly skilled Applied Scientist to lead the development and implementation of state-of-the-art algorithms and machine learning models, focusing on advancing the use of Generative AI (GenAI) to address critical healthcare challenges.

As a Staff Machine Learning Scientist, you will:

• Help define the long-term AI strategy for Cleveland Clinic.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify business needs.
• Deliver scalable, AI-driven solutions.
• Apply advanced AI techniques to real-world healthcare problems.
• Conduct experiments to evaluate model performance.
• Contribute to the integration of AI solutions into clinical and operational systems.
• Mentor and guide interns, junior staff, scientists, and engineers.
• Stay up to date with the latest developments in GenAI and large language models.
• Participate in the development of technology roadmaps for AI projects.
• Present project updates to team members and cross-functional partners.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related fields.
• Seven+ years of hands-on experience in AI/ML research and development with emphasis in predictive modeling, deep learning, GenAI, and LLMs post PhD.
• OR 10+ years of hands-on experience in AI/ML research and development with emphasis in predictive modeling, deep learning, GenAI, and LLMs post Master’s degree.
• Expertise in using AI frameworks and tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, to build and tune foundation models.
• In-depth experience in deep learning and GenAI techniques in Natural Language Processing and multi-modal representations.
• Strong software skills in Python or other relevant programming languages.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and strong communication and interpersonal skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills and passion for leveraging AI in healthcare.

Requirements

• Experience developing and deploying AI technologies in healthcare.
• Familiarity with healthcare data and systems (EHR, medical imaging, etc.).
• Experience with cloud computing technologies related to AI, including Azure, Databricks, etc.
• Familiarity with MLOps best practices.

Benefits

• Up to 5% travel required.
