[Hiring] Senior Principal Data Scientist @Progressive Casualty Insurance Company

Role Description

As a senior principal data scientist on the Claims Data Science and Engineering team, you'll guide the largest data science and engineering team at Progressive. You'll use machine learning, machine vision, and generative AI to solve some of the business's largest problems.

• Prioritize making claims more accurate and efficient.
• Improve customer outcomes and operations.
• Work closely with Claims business leaders, business partners, product, and technology teams to design, test, launch, and scale responsible analytical and AI solutions.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in Statistical/Quantitative Modeling and/or Machine Learning tools.
• Experience using various database tools processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
• Bachelor's degree with quantitative focus in Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field (e.g., Mathematics) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
• Master's degree or higher with quantitative focus in Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field (e.g., Mathematics) and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Requirements

• Experience leading complex machine learning or AI projects from ideation through launch and adoption, with measurable business results.
• Deep expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, and modern AI, including LLMs, agent-based systems, and retrieval and context design.
• Experience working with unstructured data such as claim notes, documents, and images.
• Strong technical skills in production AI architecture, software and data engineering, cloud environments, and open-source tools such as Python.
• A record of mentoring others and improving data science practices across teams.
• Experience in insurance claims or another high-volume operational setting.
• Ability to turn business problems into practical analytical solutions.
