[Hiring] Senior AI Engineer @Howden

Role Description

The Senior AI Engineer builds and ships AI-enabled software. This is a hands-on build role on Howden's US AI Engineering team, involving:

• Writing agents, pipelines, integrations, and infrastructure as code to put AI capability into production on Azure.
• Working from solution designs and integration patterns set by the AI Lead and enterprise architecture.
• Owning the implementation end to end.
• Spending most of your time in code, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Using coding agents and AI development tooling to enhance development speed.
• Being self-directed, breaking down tasks, and delivering production-quality work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years of building and shipping AI or machine learning solutions to production.
• Strong hands-on coding background with production experience in Python, plus working proficiency in Node.js or TypeScript and .NET (C#).
• Solid software engineering fundamentals: Git workflow, automated testing, code review, debugging, and performance profiling.
• Hands-on experience building applications with large language models.
• Production experience with Azure AI services.
• Hands-on Terraform experience provisioning cloud infrastructure.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Working experience with containers and cloud-native deployment patterns.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and SDKs into enterprise systems.
• Data and analytics background.
• Experience building or curating knowledge bases for search or AI retrieval.
• Experience instrumenting and supporting production systems.
• Practical daily use of AI coding assistants.
• Demonstrated ability to take an outcome and deliver it independently.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements

• Experience with agent orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and tool integration for agents.
• Experience building evaluation and observability tooling for LLM applications.
• Experience with knowledge graphs and graph databases.
• Experience with Azure data and analytics tooling.
• Familiarity with Azure integration services.
• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform.
• Background in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry.

• The expected base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $170,000; actual base salary will be determined based on factors including candidate experience and work location.
