[Hiring] AI Data Migration Engineer @GovPilot

Role Description

Every new GovPilot customer arrives with years of data locked in legacy systems. Your job is to get that data into GovPilot accurately and quickly, and to make every migration faster than the one before. AI comes first in this role.

• Direct AI agents such as Claude Code to profile legacy databases, draft field mappings, generate transformation and load scripts, and automate validation.
• Verify AI-generated work and turn it into repeatable tooling.
• Own your work end-to-end with little day-to-day direction.
• Fix slow processes without waiting to be asked.

What You'll Do

• Own migrations end-to-end.
• Take raw client data from intake through mapping, transformation, loading, and sign-off.
• Drive the work with AI.
• Use AI agents to profile source databases, propose source-to-target mappings, and generate cleansing, deduplication, and load scripts.
• Build tools, not one-offs, turning each migration into reusable, AI-assisted import pipelines.
• Automate validation to ensure zero data loss and field-level accuracy.
• Push AI adoption forward by automating manual steps in the migration process.
• Catch data quality issues early to avoid threats to go-live dates.
• Keep mapping logic, scripts, and logs clear for auditability.
• Be available for go-lives, often scheduled in evenings or weekends.

What Success Looks Like

• 15 days: Completed a migration alongside the team and mapped where the current process is manual.
• 30 days: Owning migrations independently and automating at least one recurring manual step.
• 45 days: Shipped a reusable import pipeline for a common legacy system and measurably cut time per migration.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience with relational databases and data imports.
• Strong SQL skills: able to write, debug, and optimize queries.
• Ability to read and modify scripts (Python, PowerShell, or similar) generated by AI.
• Daily, hands-on use of AI coding agents to build data workflows.
• Track record of automating work that used to be manual.
• Self-direction with ownership of projects and delivery without supervision.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends for cutovers or go-lives.
• Care with sensitive government and resident data (PII).
• Ability to run several client migrations at once and raise blockers early.

Preferred

• SQL Server experience.
• Experience with ETL or data pipeline tools.
• Familiarity with local government or municipal software.

• Team: Professional Services.

• Hours: Overlap with US Eastern business hours required, plus scheduled evening and weekend go-lives.
• Start date: Immediate.
• Status: Full-time, exempt.
• Pay Range: $120,000 USD to $140,000 USD, may be considered for a discretionary bonus.
