[Hiring] VP, Procurement @Soluna

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced equipment procurement leader to join our world-class team.

You will own procurement strategy for the critical mechanical and electrical equipment that powers Soluna's AI/HPC data centers, managing long-lead-time sourcing, manufacturer relationships, and supply chain risk across a multi-site build-out schedule. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role at a senior level — you will own procurement execution directly, rather than building a team beneath you, while carrying the scope and authority of an experienced functional leader.

What You'll Do

• Own procurement strategy for generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, and PDUs, aligned with multi-site build-out schedules.
• Manage 12–24+ month lead times on generators, switchgear, and transformers by locking in production slots early and sequencing orders against construction milestones.
• Work closely with mechanical/electrical engineers, general contractors, and EPC firms to ensure procured equipment matches design specs (voltage, capacity, redundancy tier — N, N+1, 2N).
• Manage strategic relationships with MEP OEMs (e.g., Caterpillar, Cummins, Vertiv, Schneider Electric, Eaton, Trane, Carrier, ABB), including capacity reservations and volume agreements.
• Coordinate factory witness testing (FAT), field commissioning (Cx), and startup support with vendors to ensure equipment meets performance specs before energization.
• Model equipment spend against site capacity plans (MW build-out), tracking cost per MW and escalation trends across steel, copper, and electrical components.
• Build contingency strategies for switchgear and transformer shortages (a well-known industry bottleneck), including multi-vendor qualification and strategic inventory buffers.
• Align equipment specs with utility interconnection requirements, local code compliance, and permitting timelines.
• Prioritize equipment supporting renewable integration, efficient PUE, and emissions reduction — particularly relevant for behind-the-meter or renewable-powered sites.
• Negotiate extended warranties, spare parts inventories, and long-term service agreements for critical rotating and static equipment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in MEP or critical infrastructure procurement, ideally within data centers, power infrastructure, or large-scale capital equipment.
• Established relationships with major MEP OEMs (e.g., Caterpillar, Cummins, Vertiv, Schneider Electric, Eaton, Trane, Carrier, ABB).
• Deep understanding of redundancy tiers (N, N+1, 2N) and how equipment specifications map to design and engineering requirements.
• Proven track record managing long-lead-time equipment (generators, switchgear, transformers) against aggressive construction schedules.
• Experience with capex modeling, cost-per-MW tracking, and escalation forecasting across major equipment categories.
• Comfort operating independently and owning procurement execution end-to-end, without a supporting team in place today.
