Role Description

This role involves verifying the Umbundu language through various tasks related to language verification tests.

  • Create language verification tests following detailed instructions
  • Conduct quality control of existing language verification tests
  • Evaluate language test submissions
  • Perform quality control on audio and video files
  • Workload is dependent on project needs
  • Payment based on work completed:
    • Language verification test creation - USD $150, one-time fee
    • Language verification test grading - USD $15 per graded submission

Responsibilities

  • Carry out assigned tasks
  • Meet assigned deadlines
  • Report progress proactively to project managers
  • Communicate with project managers in a timely and effective manner
  • Follow guidelines and requirements as dictated by the project manager
  • Communicate in English with project managers via email (verbal communication is not required)

Skills

  • Native-level (C2) proficiency in Umbundu (ISO: umb_ao)
  • Ability to read and write in Umbundu
  • Familiarity with linguistics, grammar, and writing systems of Umbundu
  • Knowledge of colloquialisms, grammar, and linguistic idiosyncrasies unique to Umbundu
  • Ability to record yourself speaking clearly in a quiet environment
  • Responsiveness to email
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Computer and internet skills
  • Web search skills
  • Typing skills
  • A good command of English is preferred

Requirements

  • Native-level (C2) proficiency in Umbundu, including the ability to read and write
  • Previous professional experience working in Umbundu
  • Formal education in Umbundu, secondary school or higher, strongly preferred
  • Masters or PhD in Linguistics, Translation Studies, or Umbundu, preferred
  • Personal laptop or access to a computer
  • Access to the internet
  • Access to email
  • The job cannot be completed from your phone
  • Payment methods are PayPal, Payoneer, or otherwise agreed upon method
  • Payment will be made on a 60-day pay cycle
  • Pay rate is in US dollars and payment will be made in US dollars
