Role Description
This individual will be responsible for the strategic development and execution of content licensing for the Scripps brands. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of the media landscape, exceptional negotiation skills, and a proven track record in licensing agreements, with a particular focus on content acquisitions.
- Identify content and partnerships that align with our brand’s needs
- Drive value content through original co-productions
- Identify and evaluate content for acquisition across all Scripps brands and platforms
- Negotiate licensing agreements with content producers, distributors, and other partners to maximize revenue and ensure favorable terms for the company
- Lead co-production efforts with domestic and international partners to create original content
- Work with internal teams to research market trends, audience preferences, and competitive landscape
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry contacts
- Manage department budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources for acquisitions and co-productions
- Mentor and manage a team of content acquisition specialists
- Work closely with marketing, legal, and production teams to ensure seamless execution of licensing and co-production agreements
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of content acquisition initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Media, Communications, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Generally, 10+ years of experience in content licensing, acquisitions, or co-productions within the media or entertainment industry
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience negotiating complex licensing agreements and managing co-production projects
- Extensive network of industry contacts and relationships in content creation, distribution, and media sales
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and forecast trends
- Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven leadership ability with a track record of successfully managing and developing teams
- A passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of diverse content genres
