Role Description

The Specification Consultant provides door hardware, access control, and security specification expertise to architects, consultants, contractors, end users, and internal teams. This role serves as a technical resource throughout the project lifecycle, supporting specification development, hardware design, security solutions, code compliance, and project coordination. The position plays a critical role in driving project opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring successful project execution across commercial, healthcare, education, government, and industrial markets.

Responsibilities

• Develop complete door hardware, access control, and security specifications for new construction, renovation, and retrofit projects.
• Create and maintain hardware schedules, hardware sets, and technical specifications that meet project requirements and applicable building, life-safety, and accessibility codes.
• Serve as a technical resource to architects, consultants, contractors, owners, and internal project teams regarding door openings, hardware, access control, and physical security applications.
• Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents to recommend appropriate mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic security solutions.
• Coordinate door hardware, access control, electrical, and specialty door requirements to ensure proper system integration.
• Participate in design reviews, project coordination meetings, pre-construction conferences, and post-installation discussions as needed.
• Review and respond to submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and product application questions to ensure specification compliance and project success.
• Collaborate with sales, project management, engineering, and operations teams to support project strategy and customer objectives.
• Identify opportunities to incorporate integrated security technologies, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, visitor management, and related solutions.
• Communicate project updates, specification revisions, and coordination requirements to stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, technologies, codes, standards, and competitive solutions.
• Utilize CRM, specification-writing software, and project management tools to manage project information and customer interactions.
• Support business development efforts by providing technical expertise during customer presentations, design discussions, and project planning activities.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and quality standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in door hardware, access control, security integration, architectural consulting, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of commercial door hardware, door opening assemblies, and life-safety requirements.
• Experience interpreting architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Understanding of electronic access control systems, electrified hardware, and integrated security solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project collaboration tools.
• Strong customer service orientation and relationship-building abilities.
