[Hiring] Social Network Analysis Consultant @Counterpart International

Role Description

Counterpart International is seeking a short-term consultant to design and conduct a social network analysis (SNA) of Counterpart’s global alumni network, specifically within the organization’s women’s economic advancement portfolio (1,000+ women leaders and entrepreneurs in more than 70 countries). The SNA will examine:

• The state and strength of the existing network and its connections.
• How the network functions and its value to alumni.
• How the network supports or facilitates alumni’s access to professional and financial opportunities, economic advancement, and resilience.

The findings should include:

• Evidence of the network’s value to alumni.
• Identification of what is working well and where the network is strongest.
• Identification of gaps and how the network can be more effectively activated.

Based on the SNA findings, the consultant will provide practical recommendations for strengthening the alumni network and expanding economic opportunities.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in social sciences, statistics, economics, data science, international development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Significant experience designing and implementing Social Network Analysis methodologies.
• Experience developing data collection tools and conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection.
• Experience training and overseeing data collectors.
• Previous experience conducting social network analysis, stakeholder mapping, coalition mapping, and network value analysis.
• Ability to translate complex SNA findings into clear recommendations and accessible products.
• Proven ability to engage constructively with a variety of stakeholders.
• Excellent written and spoken English (Dutch and Spanish is a plus).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across time zones, countries, and stakeholder groups.

Requirements

• Develop the SNA methodology and data collection instruments.
• Lead and oversee the data collection process.
• Perform data analysis and develop findings.
• Produce SNA report, including graphic representations of the SNA.

Expected Deliverables

• Inception report, including a detailed work plan and sampling approach.
• Final data collection instruments and data protection plan.
• Data management, security, and analysis plan.
• Cleaned and anonymized dataset and relevant analysis files.
• Draft and final SNA report, including infographics and network maps.
• Final slide deck of SNA findings and graphics.
• Handover sessions and documentation for Counterpart.

Timeline and Level of Effort

The consultancy is expected to require up to 40 working days over approximately four months. Applicants should propose a realistic workplan and level of effort.

Counterpart’s Responsibilities

• Provide the available alumni database and relevant program documents.
• Introduce the consultant to relevant focal points.
• Review and approve the methodology and workplan.
• Provide applicable organizational policies related to data protection.
• Support validation of emerging findings.
• Approve any public presentation or external use of findings.

Acceptance Criteria

Deliverables will be reviewed against agreed criteria, including methodological rigor, completeness, data quality, and ethical compliance.
