[Hiring] Shipping Manager @Pacific Environment

Role Description

The Singapore Shipping Manager will provide the technical, policy, and stakeholder engagement support necessary to accelerate maritime decarbonization in Singapore. The position will focus on harbor craft electrification, port decarbonization, sustainable marine fuels, and supporting Singapore's maritime leadership globally.

The Singapore Shipping Manager will:

• Conduct policy analysis.
• Manage research projects.
• Support pilot programs.
• Develop technical recommendations.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities with industry, government, research institutions, and civil society partners.
• Be part of the climate campaign team working to end fossil fuel pollution from ships and accelerate production of 100% zero-emission maritime technologies and fuels.

This position will report to Pacific Environment’s Singapore Country Director.

Location and Travel

• Flexible, remote work location within Singapore.
• Involves domestic and international travel.
• Standard working hours with flexibility; may require earlier morning hours (7am-10am SGT) for overlap with PE colleagues in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of Pacific Environment’s ports and shipping decarbonization campaigns in Singapore.
• Conduct research and analysis on shipping decarbonization policies and projects in Singapore.
• Evaluate policy, regulatory, technical, and economic barriers and support the development of recommendations to accelerate deployment.
• Monitor relevant policies, regulations, industry developments, and maritime decarbonization initiatives.
• Assess international best practices and translate lessons learned into relevant policy and advocacy opportunities in Singapore.
• Support existing partnerships in Singapore and identify new opportunities.
• Draft policy briefs, technical reports, presentations, stakeholder-facing materials, consultation submissions, and advocacy materials.
• Coordinate workshops, conferences, study tours, and stakeholder convenings.
• Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, industry, research institutions, NGOs, and other key stakeholders.
• Support coordination with regional partners and Pacific Environment teams globally.
• Track progress against program objectives and contribute to grant reporting, impact assessment, and organizational planning.
• Other tasks as assigned by the Singapore Country Director.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of work experience in relevant field (NGO administration, government, government relations, advocacy, campaigns, research, corporate sustainability, climate, etc.).
• Demonstrated experience and expertise in climate/energy issues and policies.
• A record of achievement in managing and winning local, regional, or international campaigns.
• Experience and expertise in advocacy, listening, consensus-building, coalition-building, and leadership skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Experience managing external consultants and/or direct experience with event coordination.
• Ability to work independently and exceptional management skills.
• Skill and comfort in building relationships with diverse audiences.
• Singapore cultural fluency and understanding of climate issues in Singapore.
• English proficiency; fluency in Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, or another Southeast Asian language is a plus.
• Advanced degrees are a plus.
• Passion for solving the climate crisis.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: S$102,000 - S$114,000 a year.
• Compensation commensurate with experience and equitable with others on the team.

Physical Requirements

• Remaining in a stationary position and looking at a computer for long stretches of time.
• Communicating with co-workers electronically.
• Occasional travel (including overnight travel), in-person meetings, or events.
