[Hiring] Senior Occupational Health and Safety Technician @Oyster

6d ago - Oyster is hiring a remote Senior Occupational Health and Safety Technician. 💸 Salary: eur 49,000 - 59,000 per year 📍Location: Spain

Role Description

In this role, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring Oyster meets its statutory Health & Safety obligations in Spain. You’ll own the delivery of Spain’s occupational risk prevention requirements, including the design, implementation, and ongoing management of Oyster’s Internal Prevention Service (Servicio de Prevención Propio). You’ll have the independence, authority, and dedicated time needed to ensure we meet local regulatory expectations and maintain high standards of employee safety.

Alongside your core Spain remit, you’ll bring your expertise to Oyster’s global Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) landscape, supporting teams and external partners across regions and countries. You’ll provide regional and global HSE guidance, share best practices, help strengthen consistent standards, and contribute to Oyster’s broader HSE strategy, while keeping Spain compliance firmly at the heart of the role.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about Health & Safety, enjoys working across cultures and geographies, and wants the opportunity to shape how HSE works within a fully remote, global organisation.

  • Spain Occupational Risk Prevention & Compliance
    • Lead the creation, ongoing design, implementation, and management of Oyster’s Internal Prevention Service in Spain.
    • Perform workplace and occupational risk assessments, and investigate work-related accidents and occupational illnesses.
    • Act as the primary, go-to expert responsible for answering and resolving complex questions, tickets, and issues on Spain-specific Health & Safety topics by way of escalation from internal teams.
    • Conduct health and safety reports, perform necessary safety measurements, and advise the business on protective measures.
    • Provide counsel and representation during Labor Inspection visits, and manage the strategic relationship between Oyster and HSE vendors.
    • Manage vendor relationships related to workplace safety and compliance in Spain in partnership with our Vendor Partnerships team.
  • Global & Regional HSE Ownership
    • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders on HSE policies, procedures, and best practices tailored to our unique remote work environment.
    • Take the lead on global H&S audits and inspections, while providing strategic support and guidance to H&S committees worldwide.
    • Conduct regular remote risk assessments, implement mitigating measures, and continuously monitor and improve our remote global health and safety program.
    • Investigate and document any global incidents or accidents, implementing swift corrective actions.
    • Stay up-to-date with relevant global health and safety regulations and best practices to seamlessly integrate safety considerations into remote work processes.
  • Global HSE Vendor Management
    • Own day-to-day relationships with key Health & Safety and Compliance vendors, building strong knowledge of their capabilities, service models, geographic coverage and operational processes.
    • Manage the vendor lifecycle and performance, including onboarding, KPIs/SLAs, governance, reviews, documentation and offboarding, ensuring partners consistently meet Oyster’s quality, compliance and service expectations.
    • Act as a trusted point of contact for vendor-related issues and escalations, coordinating with vendors and internal teams to investigate root causes, resolve complex issues and maintain clear stakeholder communication.
    • Partner with vendors and cross-functional teams to strengthen processes, improve consistency and scalability, reduce operational friction and enhance customer and team member experience.
    • Analyse performance, feedback and trends to identify improvements, leveraging AI and automation where appropriate and sharing learnings across the wider People Services team.
  • Stakeholder Support & Knowledge Sharing
    • Build out relevant content, documentation, and knowledge resources to assist stakeholders with Health & Safety questions, and provide training to increase internal knowledge as required.
    • Liaise with cross-functional stakeholders and vendors, working closely with Oyster leadership when high-level internal decisions are required.
    • Support and manage escalations involving workplace safety concerns or regulatory requirements from other internal teams.
  • Projects
    • Lead cross-functional projects as a subject matter expert on Health & Safety. Partner with the Director of People Services and cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, and independently drive initiatives to completion.
  • Continuous Improvement & High Performance
    • Continuously audit and refine workflows and ways of working to reduce response times and elevate service quality.
    • Actively leverage AI responsibly to maximize personal output, sharing best practices with the broader People Services team.
    • Analyze recurring ticket trends and received queries to identify systemic issues, proactively building preventative resources for internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Significant, deep technical knowledge of Spain’s occupational risk prevention regulations, with proven experience setting up or managing an Internal Prevention Service (Servicio de Prevención Propio).
  • Experience or strong comfort level supporting health & safety frameworks across multiple countries or regions in a remote environment across EMEA, APAC, LATAM, and AMER.
  • A pragmatic, commercially minded approach to compliance, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical advice for a remote workforce.
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable handling escalations, advising senior leadership, and training internal teams.
  • Proven track record of independently driving cross-functional H&S initiatives from conception to execution.
  • Deep experience sourcing & implementing vendors across the HSE & Compliance space.
  • A bachelor's or university degree in environmental health, safety or engineering or a similar field.
  • A Master's degree in Occupational Risk Prevention (Técnico Superior en Prevención de Riesgos Profesionales) with the three specializations.
  • Full English proficiency (C1 level or above).
