Role Description

This role involves supporting the ADEQ’s Air Quality Permits Team as a Senior Environmental Engineer. Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting air quality permits, including enforceable conditions
  • Assuring compliance with state and federal air pollution laws and regulations
  • Reviewing and processing detailed technical reports from the regulated community
  • Leading projects and identifying resources
  • Reviewing technical documents for compliance with environmental regulations
  • Evaluating complex permit applications and reports
  • Participating in site visits, data collection, inspections, and investigations
  • Providing technical support to staff, the regulated community, and the public
  • Assisting in preparing environmental guidance documents
  • Driving technical outreach and conducting presentations
  • Mentoring junior staff and auditing technical work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering
  • 8 or more years of engineering experience for Associate Engineer (G28)
  • Master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience
  • 12 or more years of engineering experience for Senior Engineer (G29)
  • Master’s degree preferred for Senior Engineer (G29)
  • 15 or more years of engineering experience for Principal Engineer (G30)
  • Master’s degree or higher for Principal Engineer (G30)
  • Professional Engineer License through the AZ Board of Technical Registration or equivalent required

Requirements

  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations pertaining to air quality
  • Knowledge of environmental and/or chemical engineering principles
  • Knowledge of air pollution control technologies
  • Skills in interpreting and applying complex environmental regulations
  • Skills in drafting complex permits and technical support documents
  • Skills in compiling complex technical presentations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Google Suite
  • Attention to detail and quality assurance
  • Strong communication, research, and problem-solving skills
