Role Description

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer & DMV Practice Lead, you will:

• Establish and grow the commissioning practice in the Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland region.
• Lead high-impact commissioning projects while developing client relationships, proposals, and staff.
• Ensure the building owner’s vision becomes reality by serving as a key technical partner throughout design and construction.
• Win and grow the region’s book of business by cultivating relationships with owners, agencies, and A/E and contractor partners.
• Serve as the senior client contact and account owner, keeping projects aligned with the owner’s goals.
• Direct and mentor commissioning staff, growing regional staff as the pipeline expands.
• Oversee commissioning delivery across new construction and retrofit projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, and product data submittals to confirm design and installed equipment meet the owner’s intent.
• Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and design and construction teams to resolve issues.
• Lead commissioning coordination meetings and witness/report on the startup of new systems.
• Travel overnight to conduct work (historically less than 20% of the time).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree, or equivalent military experience, in a technical field such as engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of work experience in commissioning including demonstrated experience leading projects and directing technical staff.
• Proven track record as a seller-doer, personally originating and winning commissioning projects.
• Established relationships with building owners, general contractors, and A/E partners in the DMV market.
• Active ANSI-accredited commissioning certification through ASHRAE, BCA, or ACG (e.g., CxA, CCP, or equivalent).
• Experience with analysis of trended field data and/or statistical analysis.
• Excellence in communication (written and oral) and organizational skills.
• Moderate to advanced skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
• Success in troubleshooting technical issues with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, life safety, communications, or building envelope systems.
• Pass NCIC background checks and initial drug test required by clients.

• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing.
• Lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
