[Hiring] Regional Safety, Health and Environmental Manager II @Sunbelt Rentals, Inc.

Role Description

Regional Safety, Health and Environmental Manager 2 (RSM) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of occupational safety management at assigned profit centers, implementation and adherence of safety policies and programs, and communicating safety issues to the Safety Director.

• Preparing reports and recommending procedures to improve organizational performance.
• Overseeing the overall integrity and quality of all Sunbelt Rentals safety protocols at individual branches within their assigned geographical area.
• Conducting PC safety compliance inspections and audits in accordance with scheduled program utilizing dedicated audit criteria including:
  • Employee training
  • Facility regulatory compliance
  • Vehicle fleet / DOT compliance
  • Shop and equipment rental fleet compliance
• Providing training and guidance to Safety Coordinators in each Branch to ensure a consistent approach is taken regarding policies and procedures.
• Identifying deficiencies found during inspections; providing written evaluation of inspection with corrective action requirements; assisting Branch Manager & Service Manager in mandating time period for completion of corrective actions.
• Assisting Branch Safety Coordinator as necessary with completion of required training, safety meeting coordination and completion, and maintenance of Safety Training & Documentation Manual.
• Tracking and trending Regions and Branches in their respected areas to identify which locations are adhering to the Sunbelt Rentals Leading Indicator Program and which areas need attention due to an increase in lagging data.
• Working with Vice President (VP) and Regional Managers to develop an annual strategic SH&E Business Plan addressing prior year performance of the Region as well as annual targets for the Calendar and Fiscal Year.
• Leading monthly Safety Coordinator Call for all Coordinators in the region.
• Developing agenda for and leading the annual Safety Coordinator Boot Camp in the Region.
• Training and monitoring staff on Sunbelt Rentals Safety Tools.
• Supporting PCM and Safety Coordinator in the investigation of all incidents and appropriate near-misses while assisting the Branch in completion of reporting requirements and following up as necessary to support the claims managers.
• Active participation in PC monthly safety meetings, as well as providing assistance to PCM/Service Manager in conducting Safety Stand Down meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of 5 years working with Safety, Health and Environmental Management Systems and implementation of safety programs.
• Preferred Safety Certification - OHST, CHST, SMS, GSP.
• Good written and verbal skills when addressing either individuals or groups.
• Ability to present information in classroom or conference call settings.
• Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan that includes measurable goals based on leading and lagging indicator performance.
• An observable positive attitude.
• Ability to track and trend performance of multiple locations based on incident data obtained through internal tracking mechanisms.
• Dependable, motivated, and self-starter.
• Ability to multi-task and be highly organized.
• Customer-service oriented.
• Ability and willingness to travel; overnight travel required.
• A general overview of OSHA construction and general industry regulation knowledge.
• Working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety.
• An ability to foster credibility with PC Supervisors, Safety Coordinators, and PCMs.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Requirements

• Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job.
• Some Sunbelt jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions including rain, wind or excessive temperatures and/or night and weekend work.
