[Hiring] Policy and Events Intern @Children's Funding Project

YDay - Children's Funding Project is hiring a remote Policy and Events Intern. 💸 Salary: usd 20 per hour 📍Location: USA

Role Description

Children’s Funding Project is seeking a detail-oriented, conscientious, dependable, and proactive individual to help us deliver on our mission to advance and support voter-approved children’s funds (VACFs). This fully remote internship will run for approximately 6 months (ideally mid-January through June 2027) and is expected to average 15-20 hours per week, with occasional additional hours required depending on project needs.

The intern will be supervised by the Vice President, Strategy & Advocacy and receive technical direction from the Policy Associate, Voter-Approved Children’s Funds. The intern’s primary focus will be supporting and helping to coordinate the biennial Children’s Funding Institute (CFI), a three-day intensive training for communities working to win a ballot campaign that creates a VACF. Along the way, the intern will learn the policy and process behind establishing and maintaining a VACF, how VACFs fit into the broader child and youth funding landscape, and develop in-depth knowledge about a specific policy area of their choosing.

The policy & events intern will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist the Policy Associate, Voter-Approved Children’s Funds, in the planning and execution of CFI, including:
    • Supporting internal meeting agendas, scheduling and note-taking
    • Assisting with external communications with faculty, attendees, special guests, and vendors
    • Supporting registration, virtual elements of the event, and the event app
    • Helping prepare printed materials, signage, and supplies
    • Traveling to New Orleans to provide on-site support during the events the week of June 21-25, 2027
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of existing and prospective VACFs throughout the United States
  • Work with the VP of Strategy & Advocacy to identify a relevant policy area that will be covered at CFI and develop in-depth knowledge of the policy area, culminating in your participation in a session at CFI that demonstrates your learning
  • Contribute to other projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, with coursework in a relevant area (e.g., public policy, education, political science) and/or early career experience in a related profession (e.g., child/youth policy, community organizing or campaign coordination, or direct service work with children and youth)
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite (e.g., using Gmail, Google Docs, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint)
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills (e.g., managing multiple deadlines, keeping a project on track, experience editing documents)
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills (e.g., experience facilitating meetings, explaining procedures, writing essays, preparing and delivering PowerPoint presentations)
  • Team-oriented attitude with an ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a remote environment
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in the workplace and as a pursuit in the outcomes of your work
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States; Children’s Funding Project is unable to sponsor visas.

Requirements

  • Experience with or desire to learn:
    • Child and youth financing policies and strategies
    • Local electoral and ballot measure processes
    • Event planning and coordination

Benefits

  • Compensation is $20 per hour.
  • This is a fully remote internship. Work may be performed anywhere within the contiguous United States.
  • Must be available to attend CFI in-person in New Orleans, Louisiana, from June 21-25, 2027. Travel and lodging costs will be covered by Children’s Funding Project. Hours during CFI will likely exceed 20 hours.

Application

The deadline to submit your cover letter and application is November 20, 2026. A cover letter is required for consideration and should address what attracts you to Children’s Funding Project’s mission and anything you’d like us to know about the perspective, knowledge, or experiences you would bring to our work. Candidates invited for a virtual interview may be asked to provide a writing sample.

Children’s Funding Project commits to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment that reflects the breadth of communities and clients we serve. We are an equal opportunity employer dedicated to hiring socially conscious individuals with diverse experiences and knowledge that deepen our organization’s impact.
