Role Description

Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Manager (Diets and Practices) and with support from WFP maternal nutrition focal point, the consultant will be responsible for the following:

  • Policy Review and Landscape Analysis
  • Assessment of Programme Management and Service Delivery related to supplements and BEP

Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in: Nutrition Epidemiology, Public Health Nutrition, Biostatistics, Health Promotion, International / Global Health, Health Policy, Food Policy, Public Policy or another relevant technical field.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in maternal and child nutrition policy and programming.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local language is an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge on nutrition, food security and health system in Nigeria is mandatory.
  • Knowledge and experience in nutrition, food security or health related surveys and assessments in Nigeria.
  • Experience of developing guidelines and plans with governments.
  • Knowledge and experience in analysing data and interpreting for decision making.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills to proactively establish and maintain working relations, and to promote synergies with other stakeholders.
  • Ability to take initiatives and work independently and systematically.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal) and any other local Nigerian language.
  • Excellent reporting and presentation skills, with a proven ability to work in collaboration with other experts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Availability in Nigeria during the assignment period, with the ability to visit office and field locations as needed.
  • Experience working in, or knowledge of, the Nigerian’s maternal health, food and nutrition context.
  • Demonstrable problem solving, policy analysis, quantitative and analytical skills; strategic and creative thinking.
  • In-depth understanding of various types of policy documents, data and their key sources, and limitations.
  • Ability to articulate and present ideas both in written presentation and orally to team as well as external audience.
  • Knowledge of the UN rules, procedures and regulations and/or working experience for the UN or other international development organization would be an asset.
