Role Description

The Center for Green Schools (CFGS) is seeking a Regional Program Manager, School Energy Efficient IAQ Network (South) to support a four-year, EPA-funded effort to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) and energy efficiency in K-12 school systems.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the Program Director to build regional Energy Efficient Indoor Air Quality (EE IAQ) Peer Learning Networks in the southwestern U.S. leveraging CFGS’ proven models. You’ll provide regionally relevant training and technical assistance to help K-12 districts develop and implement comprehensive EE IAQ Management Plans, driving key initiatives that advance cleaner, healthier indoor air in alignment with USGBC’s mission.

You’ll report to the Program Manager and be part of a collaborative team where your contributions will help shape impactful outcomes. You’ll work closely with colleagues at the Center for Green Schools, including other Regional Program Managers to deliver high-impact initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make meaningful connections with regional school system staff working on indoor air quality (IAQ) and energy efficiency, within the southwestern region of the U.S. (AZ, CA, HI, NM, NV, OK, TX).
  • Develop and implement a plan for recruiting and retaining district participants, in partnership with the Program Director.
  • Support K-12 districts’ development of district-level Energy Efficient Indoor Air Quality (EE IAQ) Management Plans by providing regionally-relevant training (virtual and in-person), technical assistance, educational materials, and communications.
  • Travel within focal region to conduct meetings and trainings, including hosting/delivering in-person training to reach at least fifty district staff within focal region per year.
  • Promote resources and opportunities at regional events and conferences, including speaking and presenting, as needed.
  • Build connections so that the majority of participants serve low-income, disadvantaged, Tribal, and/or small to medium-sized communities and districts.
  • Guide an annual regional cohort of ten district staff through the School Air Quality Fellowship program, helping them navigate training, IAQ management plan development, credentialing opportunities, 1-on-1 coaching, and mentorship from industry experts.
  • Support all logistics of the School Air Quality Fellowship program, including recruitment, coaching, training development, and the administration of travel and professional development reimbursements.
  • Manage mini-grant funding opportunity to help regional Fellows overcome barriers associated with developing and putting into practice comprehensive, district-level EE IAQ Management Plans.
  • Supervise graduate-level interns and 1-2 Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Climate Corps Summer Fellows annually to support regional programming, school district outreach, and provide assistance to school districts.
  • Submit quarterly progress data to the Program Director to meet EPA reporting requirements.
  • Administer and analyze feedback surveys and other feedback tools with regional program participants, Fellows, and interns to ensure the program is achieving its aims.
  • Inform the content and/or focus of EE IAQ virtual trainings, educational materials (guides, templates, fact sheets, case studies), and media communications based on regional examples, priorities, and stories.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Program Director, national Center for Green Schools staff, and Regional Program Managers in other focal regions.
  • Attend and support logistics at the annual Green Schools Conference and national school district training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience required; school indoor air quality (IAQ) and energy efficiency, environmental health and safety, facility management, energy management, organizational sustainability, and/or organizational change management or a related field.
  • Experience with and in-depth knowledge of day-to-day operational needs of public K-12 schools or school districts and knowledge of the sustainable built environment and green building practices.
  • Existing K-12 public school district connections and experiences within region.
  • Experience building, developing, and supporting strong, collaborative relationships with professional stakeholders.
  • Experience working with low-income, disadvantaged, Tribal, and/or small to medium-sized communities and school districts.
  • Strong training development and delivery, technical assistance, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to create or adapt in-person and virtual professional development opportunities, educational materials, and communications content.
  • Proficiency in data management and analysis.
  • Experience leading or guiding efforts to improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency in K-12 school systems.
  • Experience working with district-level facility management, energy management, and/or environmental health staff.
  • Experience managing staff or interns.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Salary

Final compensation and benefits will be confirmed at the time of offer and may vary based on factors such as internal equity, relevant experience, qualifications, and employment status. Please note that salary negotiations will not extend beyond the top of the internal salary range.
