Role Description

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for professionals with native-level Italian proficiency, strong English communication skills, and exceptional attention to linguistic detail to contribute to an advanced AI training and language-evaluation project focused on Italian speech, pronunciation, fluency, and linguistic authenticity.

Selected professionals will listen to Italian-language audio, evaluate the naturalness and fluency of speakers or AI-generated outputs, assess pronunciation and intonation, and provide clear written justifications in English. The work requires highly advanced Italian proficiency, careful auditory judgement, and the ability to articulate subtle linguistic differences accurately. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Italian Audio & Fluency Evaluation
  • Listen to Italian-language audio clips and evaluate overall fluency and naturalness
  • Assess whether speech sounds authentic and natural in Italian
  • Identify unnatural phrasing, delivery, or speech patterns
  • Apply consistent evaluation standards across different speakers and audio samples
  • Distinguish subtle differences in linguistic quality and spoken-language authenticity
• Pronunciation & Intonation Assessment
  • Evaluate pronunciation, rhythm, stress, and intonation
  • Identify pronunciation patterns that affect naturalness or intelligibility
  • Assess whether spoken Italian reflects appropriate linguistic conventions
  • Recognise subtle phonetic and prosodic differences across audio samples
  • Apply established project guidelines consistently when rating speech quality
• Written Evaluation & Justification
  • Document assessments clearly and concisely in English
  • Provide detailed explanations supporting individual evaluations
  • Identify specific linguistic factors influencing quality ratings
  • Communicate nuanced language observations through structured written feedback
  • Maintain consistency and precision across evaluation documentation
• Language Quality & AI Evaluation
  • Review Italian-language outputs generated or processed by AI systems
  • Identify recurring issues affecting linguistic authenticity or fluency
  • Provide expert language insight that supports improvements in Italian understanding and generation
  • Apply advanced speaker judgement to ambiguous or borderline examples
  • Help establish reliable quality standards for Italian-language model outputs
• Project Collaboration & Quality Assurance
  • Collaborate with project coordinators to clarify evaluation requirements
  • Flag ambiguous language content or cases requiring additional guidance
  • Complete assigned audio-review tasks accurately and on schedule
  • Incorporate updated guidelines and feedback into ongoing evaluations
  • Maintain high standards of quality and consistency across repeated review assignments

Qualifications

• Native-level proficiency in Italian
• Strong command of both spoken and written Italian
• Minimum B2-level English proficiency
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Exceptional attention to linguistic detail
• Ability to identify nuanced differences in pronunciation, fluency, intonation, and naturalness
• Experience with audio analysis, transcription, or linguistic assessment is highly valued
• Background in linguistics, phonetics, voice specialisation, music, audio engineering, or a related discipline is advantageous
• Experience in media, communications, language teaching, or similar fields is beneficial
• Ability to provide clear and well-supported written evaluation rationale
• Comfortable working independently within structured review guidelines
• No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

• Independent contractor engagement
• Fully remote
• Compensation: $30–$65/hour
• Work will involve Italian-language audio evaluation, pronunciation and intonation assessment, linguistic-quality review, and written feedback
• Strong Italian proficiency and English communication skills are central to this engagement
• Assignments may involve evaluating both human and AI-generated or AI-processed speech
• Project scope, workload, evaluation criteria, and linguistic guidelines may evolve depending on project requirements
• Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
