Role Description

The Consultant will deliver his/her work individually or within a multidisciplinary team. The ultimate goal and mission of OIGI is to conduct independent investigations into allegations of misconduct involving WFP staff, contractors and other applicable persons.

• The Consultant will report to the Director, Office of Inspections and Investigations (OIGI) and/or his delegate.
• Under the supervision and direction of the OIGI Director or his delegate, the Consultant will generally be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide interpreting and translation services for investigations from English to Spanish, Spanish to English, English to French, French to English, and where necessary, work in other languages that the Consultant may be confident in.
  • Provide interpreting/translation services for office and field-based investigations into allegations of violations of policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and applicable rules and regulations.
  • Assist with the analysis of information, documentation, electronic evidence, and arrange and facilitate interviews between investigators and staff or other involved parties.
  • Provide simultaneous, consecutive, and liaison interpreting, translations, and linguistic support to investigations.
  • Prepare and draft translated documents pertaining to investigations, including documentary evidence, statements, interview transcripts, and investigation reports.
  • Regularly appraise on the progress of translations and interpretations.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• An advanced university degree in Languages (Spanish, English and/or French), Interpretation, Translations or related relevant fields. Other training and/or certifications in languages is an asset.
• At least six years of progressively responsible professional experience related to interpreting and translations in English, Spanish or French.
• Previous experience in the conduct of interpreting and translations in investigations with a UN organization or international financing institution and working in developing countries is an asset.
• Attention to detail, resourcefulness, personal initiative, maturity of judgment and tact.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, with excellent oral comprehension skills, versatility, and an ability to stay calm under pressure and complete work within prescribed deadlines.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a team and to establish effective working relations with persons of different cultural backgrounds.
• Written and oral proficiency (native or fluent) in Spanish, French and English is essential for this position. Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Russian or Chinese) or Portuguese is an advantage.
