Role Description

This role involves conducting surveys of international health care organizations to assess compliance with applicable standards and functionality of care delivery systems.

  • Engages health care organization staff in interactive dialogues on standards-based issues.
  • Prepares exit reports linking measurable deficiencies with potential systems vulnerabilities.
  • Communicates findings to health care organization leadership in a constructive manner.
  • Participates in Joint Commission International activities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts thorough evaluations of international programs for accreditation/certification.
  • Reviews and evaluates pre-survey information and conducts pre-survey activities.
  • Selects patient records based on client application evaluations.
  • Conducts analysis of care delivery systems and evaluates patient care environments.
  • Interviews staff and patients to assess compliance with standards.
  • Analyzes documents to assess compliance with Joint Commission International standards.
  • Participates in and/or conducts all required on-site activities.
  • Documents observations accurately using survey technology.
  • Provides documentation to guide health care organization improvement activities.
  • Reports survey findings in a complete and timely manner.
  • Prepares exit reports and interprets standards for organization personnel.
  • Consults with organization leaders on high-profile health care issues.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Joint Commission International standards and policies.
  • Participates in staff development activities and may perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Nurses must have graduated from an approved school of nursing and have a Master's degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Administrators must have a Master's degree in a health-related field.
  • Medical Technologists must have a Master's degree in a related discipline.
  • Other health care practitioners must have an advanced degree (Master's or Doctor's) in their related field.
  • Current professional licensure in related disciplines is required at time of hire.
  • Physicians must be Board Eligible or Board Certified at time of hire.
  • Must hold a CPHQ certification at time of hire or attain within one year of hire.
  • Five years of recent experience, including 3 years of direct clinical experience and 2 years of senior management experience.
  • Contemporary knowledge of health care operations and clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission International standards and involvement in surveys.

Requirements

  • Ability to research, collect, organize, interpret, and communicate large volumes of information.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize observations to identify survey findings.
  • Multi-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Independent decision-making skills to manage the survey process.
  • Ability to elicit information through sensitive questioning and active listening.
  • Dependability and professionalism in teamwork.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Fluent in speaking and writing in English; fluency in another language is preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and work in various physical settings.
  • Must be physically capable of extensive travel 100% of work time.

Availability

  • Must be able to travel to all countries where JCI accredits.
  • Participation in corporate orientation and education upon hire.
  • Completion of surveys with a preceptor to facilitate understanding of standards.
  • Ongoing participation in continuing education activities.
  • Must be able to meet availability requirements based on employment status.
  • Obtain and maintain a current passport; a second passport may be advisable for frequent travelers.
  • Weekend travel will be required.
