Role Description

TerraForm Power is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineering Intern to support the Engineering and Operations teams in maintaining and improving protection systems across our renewable energy portfolio. During this internship, you will gain hands-on exposure to power system protection, substation assets, and regulatory compliance requirements within a large-scale renewable energy platform. The role will focus on:

• Analyzing protection system maintenance records
• Supporting the development of standardized documentation and maintenance programs
• Assisting with compliance efforts related to NERC PRC-005 standards

This internship provides an opportunity to work with experienced engineers while developing practical skills in:

• Protection system maintenance
• Technical documentation review
• Data analysis

The intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams to help improve:

• Inspection workflows
• Data quality
• Reliable operation of wind, solar, and substation assets

Qualifications

• Coursework in Power Systems, Protection & Control, or Substation Engineering
• Analytical skills with the ability to review historical maintenance or inspection data for completeness and accuracy
• Strong communication skills for summarizing findings and collaborating with Engineering, Operations, and Compliance teams
• Organized, self-driven, and able to manage tasks with guidance from senior engineering staff
• Interest in learning about NERC PRC-005, protection system maintenance intervals, and compliance documentation
• Prior internship or project experience related to substations, protection, renewables, or power engineering (preferred but not required)

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as an Undergraduate (Junior or Senior) or Graduate student pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems emphasis preferred
• Academic focus or strong interest in Substation Design and/or Power System Protection
• Fundamental understanding of electrical power system components such as breakers, transformers, relays, and protection schemes
• Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, protection schematics, and substation drawings
• Strong attention to detail when reviewing technical documentation or compliance records
