[Hiring] Individual Disability Advocate @People with Disability Australia Limited

Role Description

PWDA is seeking a full-time regional individual advocate who is based in Gympie for a 12-month fixed term contract (with possibility to extend).

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Advocate who shares our values, to provide issue-based advocacy support to people with disability living in the Gympie area. This role is vital in promoting, protecting, and realising the human, legal, and service user rights of people with disability, in line with the National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP) and Queensland Disability Advocacy Program (QDAP).

• Work directly with clients via face-to-face and telephone advocacy, particularly supporting individuals with cognitive impairments and/or communication challenges.
• Strengthen local engagement in the region.
• Assist clients in decision-making, complaints, legal access, and referrals.
• Engage with local networks and promote PWDA services.
• Support intake and referral processes during high demand.
• Contribute to systemic advocacy and organisational activities.

Note: This is a fully remote position. Applicants must have access to a suitable and private home workspace that supports confidentiality and productivity.

Qualifications

• You reside in Gympie.
• You have a demonstrated understanding of disability rights and relevant legislation.
• You have experience supporting clients in distress and navigating feedback and complaints.
• You have a commitment to trauma-informed and culturally competent practice.
• You have exceptional communication skills.
• You have experience using a client management system and managing client files and information.

Requirements

• Bonus points if you have relevant tertiary qualifications and/or lived experience of disability.
