[Hiring] Indigenous Advisor @Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre

3d ago - Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre is hiring a remote Indigenous Advisor. 💸 Salary: $100–$150/hour 📍Location: Canada

Role Description

Foresight Canada is seeking a strategic and community-minded Indigenous Advisor to lead the integration of Indigenous perspectives, rights, and leadership across the Manitoba Net Zero Innovation Network (MNZIN).

The Manitoba Net Zero Innovation Network (MNZIN) serves as the operational engine driving Manitoba’s ambitious Path to Net Zero strategy. Designed to deliver the 2026–2029 Action Plan, MNZIN accelerates decarbonization by assembling expert teams and funding high-impact projects across three key economic clusters:

  • Sustainable agri-food
  • Clean transportation
  • The built environment

Fundamental to the program’s success is an understanding that a sustainable future is impossible without the meaningful participation and leadership of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.

The Indigenous Advisor will help ensure that engagement is not a checkbox exercise but a foundational pillar of the program. You will help guide the Foresight team to bridge the gap between provincial net-zero goals and the specific priorities of Indigenous rightsholders, ensuring that the transition to a green economy creates equitable wealth and opportunity for Indigenous communities across Manitoba.

The successful applicant will be a true community builder who is passionate about reducing Canada’s climate impact through technology adoption. This means that you are a great writer and communicator, a team player, an entrepreneurial self-starter, are comfortable working remotely, and have strong time and project management skills.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Relationship Management Support: Help facilitate introductions and relationship building between MNZIN and Indigenous governments, leadership, organizations, economic development corporations, and community rightsholders.
  • Meaningful Engagement Framework Support: Support the design and implementation of a culturally appropriate engagement strategy that aligns with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the TRC Calls to Action.
  • Project Advisory: Advise on MNZIN-funded projects in agri-food, transportation, and industrial sectors to ensure they respect Indigenous land rights and incorporate Traditional Knowledge where appropriate.
  • Economic Opportunity Advisory: Identify opportunities for Indigenous-led businesses and SMEs to participate in MNZIN’s innovation clusters and access catalytic capital.
  • Workforce Integration: Collaborate with the MNZIN Workforce Stream to ensure training and upskilling programs are accessible to Indigenous talent and tailored to community-specific needs.
  • Internal Capacity Building: Provide ongoing cultural competency guidance to the MNZIN team to ensure all program operations are inclusive and respectful.

Qualifications

  • Deep, lived experience and a professional network within Manitoba’s Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis, and/or Inuit).
  • Ability to navigate complex political landscapes and facilitate high-level dialogue between government officials, industry leaders, and Indigenous Elders and knowledge keepers.
  • Strong understanding of the duty to consult, Indigenous land rights, and the specific socio-economic landscape of Manitoba.
  • Prior experience in economic development, natural resources, or environmental sectors is highly valued.

Requirements

  • Part-Time Consulting Role (Remote – must be located in Manitoba).
  • This is a 1-year contract with the expectation of renewal and extension to a 3-year term, with the potential to transition into a long-term consulting role.
  • Rate: $100–$150/hour, depending on experience and qualifications, with a maximum of 250 hours annually (up to 20 hours/month on average).
  • This is a part-time, flexible engagement based on project needs.
