Role Description

The Foundation Partnerships team at UNICEF USA is seeking an intern to join the team for a virtual Summer 2026 internship. The Foundation Partnerships intern will work closely with a Foundation Partnerships Assistant Director and Managing Director to support our strategy and operations work. The intern will also work across the team to support a variety of projects that will help build out thematic and partner-specific engagement strategies. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in the U.S. Foundations sector and familiarity with UNICEF’s mission and international presence.

The internship provides an opportunity to grow professional skills while seeing firsthand how to develop strategies, steward partners and engage new, prospective funders. Our goal is to provide a tailored internship experience that allows you to grow skills in areas of interest while providing an opportunity to:

  • Meaningfully contribute to advancing UNICEF’s mission to relentlessly pursue a more equitable world for every child
  • Expand writing and research skills related to UNICEF core funding priorities and foundation partners including prospect research, analysis and reporting
  • Play an active role in contributing to new communications strategies
  • Gain exposure to UNICEF’s programming and policy priorities through meetings, webinars, and internal briefings
  • Connect with a cohort of UNICEF USA interns for skill building and networking opportunities

Key Responsibilities/Projects

  • Strategy & Prospect Research
    • Conduct research and build on current knowledge of potential prospects related to the thematic areas aligned with UNICEF’s initiatives and programmatic commitments; investigate new thematic areas as directed by the team such as climate change, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and innovative financing.
    • Outline partnership development strategies for FY26-28 in the designated thematic areas based on prospect research and corresponding alignment with UNICEF work.
    • Drive background research on UNICEF’s programmatic approach and comparative advantage for specific areas and conduct funding landscape research.
    • Complete other projects as directed, including an option to own a project from start to finish.
  • Communications and Storytelling
    • Develop strategies to better tell stories of the impact that our foundation partners make through their collaboration with UNICEF.
    • Prepare a toolkit of PowerPoint decks to enable team members to efficiently tell an array of stories about our work to internal and external audiences.
  • Analysis & Reporting
    • Analyze existing map of current foundation investment opportunities around UNICEF thematic areas to identify future investment opportunities; make suggestions and updates to documentation, as necessary.
    • Explore data visualization projects using existing financial documentation and CRM database tools to provide insight into historical revenue analysis, thematic breakdown of revenue, new partnership development trends, budget growth over time, etc.
  • Qualitative Interview Support
    • Assist various team members with grant-related qualitative interview tasks surrounding key programmatic strategies.

Qualifications

  • Must be a current student enrolled in a College or University degree program
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the entire timeline (June 2, 2026 – August 21, 2026)
  • Interns can work up to 30 hours maximum a week during the Summer cohort
  • Must provide their own equipment (e.g. laptop) and have access to a stable internet connection
  • Interest in program management, event planning, nonprofit management or related field preferred
  • Must have experience with community organizing, volunteer management, and a passion for inspiring others (extracurricular activities, leaders of clubs etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of the community for which the candidate is applying a plus
  • The successful candidate must also have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of children's rights and international issues, as well as a commitment to public service
  • The ideal candidate will be resourceful and energetic with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously with attention to detail
  • Innovation, creativity, and a team player mentality are necessary for success in this role
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effective presentations and workshops and ease in public speaking for groups large and small
  • Experience working with students or in educational programming is a plus
  • Proven ability to work well with a diverse group of people in a team setting; additional language(s) a plus
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written; experience working with cross-country teams a plus
  • Fluency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is preferred
  • Must be a highly motivated team player who enthusiastically embraces the mission of UNICEF and UNICEF USA

  • Must possess current and valid US Work Authorization and be eligible to work for any US employer without sponsorship.
