[Hiring] Fire Safety Engineer @Vitaver and Associates

Role Description

The Fire Safety Engineer will act as a subject matter expert (SME) for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). Responsibilities include:

• Reviewing all UL 9540a reports from cell-, module-, and up through unit/installation-level, and providing direction.
• Analyzing, approving, and offering guidance toward the fire safety system designs of BESS manufacturers and projects.
• Reviewing, providing feedback, and offering guidance for all project- and product-level designs regarding BESS safety and code compliance, ensuring adherence to all applicable codes and standards, including UL, NFPA, and IFC.
• Overseeing all safety analyses for project-level reports, including hazard mitigation analysis (HMA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), heat flux analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations ensuring that all fire safety requirements are met or exceeded.
• Initiating and fostering relationships with national, state, and local fire institutions and first responders, including Fire Marshalls, Fire Departments, and educational institutions.
• Traveling to local jurisdictions to present BESS and fire safety to first responders, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), public utility commissions (PUCs), and community meetings, addressing and educating about the concerns of each stakeholder.

Qualifications

• Experience with Fire Safety for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Experience with UL 9540a report review at cell-, module-, and unit/installation-level.
• Experience with Fire safety system design for BESS manufacturers and projects.
• Experience with UL, NFPA, and IFC codes and standards compliance.
• Experience with Hazard Mitigation Analysis (HMA).
• Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
• Experience with Heat flux analysis.
• Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations.
• Experience with Emergency Response/Operation Plans (ERP/EOPs).
