  • Install, validate, and troubleshoot high-precision data acquisition and monitoring equipment.
  • Make critical, real-time engineering decisions during complex testing scenarios.
  • Ensure safety compliance, test quality, and adherence to standardized procedures.
  • Analyze test data using internally developed software tools.
  • Serve as technical lead during field assignments and mentor junior engineers.
  • Apply power systems and analog circuit fundamentals in real-world environments.
  • Interface with major generator OEMs and technologies (e.g., GE, Siemens, ABB).
  • Develop generator, exciter, and control system models for power system studies.
  • Perform advanced analysis of test data using proprietary internal tools.
  • Prepare high-quality NERC compliance reports and technical documentation.
  • Develop and refine test plans and methodologies for future projects.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise in generator dynamics, simulation, and control systems.
  • Coordinate with utilities, ISOs, OEMs, and plant engineering teams.
  • Remain available for periodic travel as required (minimum ~20%).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Relevant engineering experience in one or more of the following:
    • Power systems analysis
    • Generator modeling
    • Field testing or commissioning
    • Control systems and/or excitation systems
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Canada (P.Eng.) or eligible for licensure.
  • Strong understanding of synchronous generators, excitation systems, and system stability.
  • Advanced experience with MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, PSS®E, or equivalent power system tools.
  • Strong technical writing, reporting, and documentation skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites across Canada (up to 30%).

Requirements

  • Experience developing engineering tools or software using Python, C/C++, or similar languages.
  • Hands-on experience with generator controls, protection systems, or commissioning activities.
  • Familiarity with NERC MOD and PRC standards or similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and on-site decision-making capabilities.
  • Residence within approximately one hour of a major Canadian airport.

Benefits

  • A supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and encourages innovation.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, retirement program with a company match, tuition reimbursement, and flexible work schedules.
  • The base hourly rate for this position ranges from $33-40, influenced by work location and various factors.
  • Benefits offered include company sponsored medical, dental, vision, and a retirement program.
