[Hiring] Emergency Response Manager @Airbnb

Role Description

This position is employed by Airbnb Inc., however the role will provide direct support to Airbnb.org, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on emergency response and provides temporary housing for people in times of crisis.

You will manage Airbnb.org’s emergency responses in the APAC region but will also be expected to support responses globally as required. Your responsibilities include:

• Monitoring disasters around the world and deciding when an event meets activation criteria.
• Managing responses from start to close-out.
• Ensuring local partners are ready before an event and have the necessary resources during one.
• Running several responses simultaneously across different countries and stages.
• Keeping internal teams and external partners informed proactively.
• Collaborating with various teams to deliver coordinated responses.

Reporting to the Senior Lead of Global Emergency Response, this position requires:

• A background in humanitarian and disaster response operations.
• Strong leadership and expertise in building effective partnerships.
• Experience in Social Impact for tech companies is a plus.
• The ability to set direction and make decisions with incomplete information.
• Willingness to deploy to the field on short notice.

Qualifications

• Min 8-16 years of experience in US / APAC or International emergency and disaster response operations.
• Direct experience activating and running disaster responses end to end.
• Strong track record of building and maintaining partnerships with nonprofits and government agencies.
• Clear, timely, and proactive communication skills.
• A proactive self-starter comfortable with ambiguity.
• Proven ability to manage multiple work streams in a matrixed organization.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Adaptability and sound decision-making in fast-paced environments.
• Willingness to travel on short notice for up to 30-50% of the year.

Requirements

• Monitor global disasters via news, partner alerts, and government advisories.
• Establish, activate, and oversee emergency housing responses.
• Oversee diverse, simultaneous disaster responses and set priorities.
• Proactively communicate status and decisions to stakeholders.
• Manage each response end-to-end, including verifying partner readiness and monitoring placements.
• Manage partnerships during active emergencies and ensure smooth handoff post-response.
• Answer partner questions during live responses.
• Collaborate with teams to optimize housing supply and maximize impact.
• Enhance operational readiness during non-crisis periods.
• Integrate best practices and cultivate relationships with government bodies.
• Deploy to disaster zones on short notice to manage ground operations.
• Write after-action reviews and ensure implementation of changes.

Benefits

• Base pay range: ₹2,590,000 — ₹3,700,000 INR.
