Role Description

UNICEF is scaling up efforts to protect children from the increasing impacts of climate change, environmental degradation, and disasters. Guided by UNICEF Strategic Plan (2026–2029) and the Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan (SCAP) 2023–2030, UNICEF works across all sectors—WASH, health, education, nutrition, social protection, and child protection—to build climate resilience, reduce risks, and advance sustainable development for every child.

  • 300 million children benefiting from climate-resilient water, sanitation, health, and education infrastructure and services.
  • 200 million children reached by solutions that reduce the risks of climate disasters and environmental hazards.

The Climate Resilience Centre of Excellence for Children (CoE) will serve as UNICEF’s global hub for technical assistance, knowledge generation, financing, and partnerships to strengthen the resilience of services and systems for children. This consultancy will provide flexible technical, strategic, and programmatic support across approximately 20 countries, as well as at the global level, to strengthen UNICEF’s work on child-responsive Early Warning Systems (EWS).

Qualifications

  • Master’s in Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change, Environmental Sciences, Environment and Development, Environmental Economics, Social Protection, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in early warning systems, disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, or related areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and/or implementing early warning systems and/or anticipatory action programmes, preferably in multiple country contexts.
  • Experience in at least one of the four pillars of early warning systems (risk knowledge; monitoring and warning services; dissemination and communication; preparedness and response capability).
  • Proven experience in providing technical advisory support to governments and/or international organizations, including coordination with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in proposal development and/or climate finance processes (e.g., GCF, Loss and Damage Fund) is an asset.

Requirements

  • Strong skills in knowledge management, analytical work, and development of technical guidance and learning materials.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English, including drafting of reports, briefing notes, and technical documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with UNICEF teams, governments, and partners in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Benefits

  • Diverse opportunities for professional and personal development.
  • Attractive compensation and benefits package.
