Role Description

The Director, Science Policy will develop and execute U.S. public policy strategies related to:

• Biomedical innovation
• Scientific advancement
• Biotechnology competitiveness
• Clinical research
• Regulatory science
• Emerging technologies
• The broader U.S. science and innovation ecosystem

Provide strategic counsel to Public & Government Affairs leadership and key business partners regarding legislative, policy, and stakeholder developments that affect the research, development, approval, and delivery of innovative medicines and healthcare solutions.

The incumbent will:

• Identify opportunities and risks in the evolving science and innovation policy landscape
• Recommend approaches that advance biomedical innovation and support patient access to innovative therapies
• Strengthen U.S. scientific leadership
• Promote Boehringer Ingelheim's long-term business and reputation objectives

Collaborate with relevant functions to develop and advance company positions, thought leadership, and advocacy strategies, and represent Boehringer Ingelheim with various stakeholders.

This role works in close partnership with:

• Regulatory Affairs and Policy
• The Innovation Unit
• Public Policy
• Government Affairs
• Communications
• Legal
• Other functions

The Director, Science Policy is responsible for:

• U.S. public policy
• Advocacy
• Stakeholder engagement
• Thought leadership dimensions of assigned science and innovation policy priorities

This position offers a remote work arrangement, with the expectation that the candidate will be based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required
• Advanced degree preferred (e.g., JD, MPH, MPP, MPA, MBA, PhD)
• Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in relevant fields
• Demonstrated expertise in biomedical innovation, biotechnology, and regulatory science
• Proven experience developing and executing public policy strategies
• Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills
• Demonstrated executive presence and sound judgment

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction
• Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
• Must be 18 years of age or older
