Role Description

The University of Maine System is accepting applications for a Digital Accessibility Specialist. This position serves as the system-wide subject matter expert and operational specialist for digital accessibility. The Digital Accessibility Specialist will:

  • Work across all University of Maine System (UMS) campuses to audit digital assets.
  • Advise on procurement.
  • Support the cultural shift toward "accessible by default" digital content.
  • Conduct accessibility audits, prepare reports, and make recommendations.
  • Collaborate with teams to implement accessibility solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the UMS community to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and rules, including ADA Title II (including 2024 updates) and revised Section 508.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a remote position based within the state of Maine. The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable driving distance of campus to allow for periodic on-site presence when required.

Salary: The salary range is $68,000-$75,000.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in learning design and technology, curriculum and instruction, web development/design, information technology, computer science, or related area.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience focused on digital accessibility required.

Requirements

  • Masterโ€™s degree in learning design and technology, curriculum and instruction, web development/design, information technology, computer science, or related area (preferred).
  • Professional certification in accessibility such as CPACC or CPWA from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) or Accessible Technology Certified Professional (ATCP) certification (preferred).
  • Higher education experience working within a university system or academic environment including familiarity with learning management systems such as D2L Brightspace (preferred).
