Role Description
The Dean of Learning and Instruction is a key educational leader responsible for advancing the College’s mission of offering competency-based programs to support adult learner labor market transitions.

Promote effective student learning, ensuring continual assessment of course competencies and learning outcomes.

Assume a leadership role in monitoring high quality instruction and facilitation of flexibility paced online learning environments.

Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate instructional faculty and classified staff.

Assist the Vice President in the development of staffing priorities for assigned areas.

Develop and recommend to the Vice President the instructional budget for the assigned programs.

Promote technology and “real-time” data to encourage personalized instruction and student support.

Assume primary responsibility for the orientation and training of faculty.

Work collaboratively with other divisions in the college to provide consistency and seamless experiences for students.

Assist the Vice President in curriculum design, development, and implementation of new program pathways to meet emerging marketplace needs.

Assist in creating and interpreting learning management system reports for effective decision-making on student retention, persistence, completion, and success.

Provide leadership to assigned areas to find innovative ways to support diverse student needs through instructional and support strategies.

Balance multiple competing priorities in developing integrated short and long-term plans for optimal use of college resources.

Assess and evaluate instructional program pathways and initiatives using outcome-based measures.

Provide thorough documentation of workflows and program review and participate in the accreditation process.

Participate in system-wide initiatives such as credit for prior learning and competency-based education.

Provide leadership for and assist with the instruction’s program pathway reviews.

Participate in and contribute to the college’s enrollment management efforts.

Represent instruction on committees and task forces as appropriate.

Engage in planning, developing, and implementing opportunities for educational advancement for Calbright students, partnering with other institutions of higher education.

Perform other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
Qualifications

A Master's degree; AND
-
A combination of five years of increasingly responsible experience in learning and instruction, including three years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.

Online teaching experience.
Requirements
-
Knowledge of State and Federal regulations regarding instruction and student support.

Familiarity with competency-based education quality frameworks.
-
Experience with practices of employee supervision, training, evaluation principles, recognition, and progressive discipline.

Expertise with organizational and management practices and processes.
-
Knowledge of andragogy; student learning outcomes theory and practice, and experience with online learning.

Problem-solving, creative thinking, adaptability, and ability to interpret and use data to inform decision-making, programs, and services.

Effective written and oral communication related to student and employee-facing communications, learning materials, presentations, and training.

Strong interpersonal relations and customer service orientation.

Ability to read, interpret, apply, and explain laws, guidelines, and regulations.

Experience maintaining accurate records and reports.

Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, staff and faculty.

Working Conditions and Travel

Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely.

Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.

Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature.

Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person.

Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment.

Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens.

Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment.

Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
