Role Description

The Database Administrator II is responsible for Microsoft SQL Server database administration and business intelligence support, including:

• Data modeling
• Reporting
• Ad hoc data requests
• Project team support

The role involves intermediate to advanced work in providing effective and efficient storage, retrieval, customization, and archiving of data by managing diverse data sets to ensure an integrated database system for all users. Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting in the development and implementation of database policies and procedures
• Ensuring data integrity throughout the maintenance and modification of existing applications
• Contributing to organizational continuity through institutional knowledge preservation for critical database systems

This role is intended to develop expertise in UMPH’s database environment through structured knowledge transfer and mentorship from senior IT staff. This is a fully remote position requiring self-direction, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work effectively in a distributed team environment.

Qualifications

• An Associate’s degree in computer science or related information technology field
• Two (2) to four (4) years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server
• Additional experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis
• Experience with Oracle databases is preferred but not required

Requirements

• Good understanding of various database architectures, with depth in Microsoft SQL Server
• Good understanding of data security management and issues
• Working knowledge of various backup and recovery methodologies
• Working knowledge of database resource management, performance management, storage structures, and performance tuning
• Proficiency in usage of T-SQL, SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS
• Proficiency in writing and maintaining Linux shell scripts and Windows command scripts
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote environment with minimal supervision
• Intellectual curiosity and a self-starter mentality with a desire to learn complex business systems and processes
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams and business units
• Willingness to explore emerging technologies including AI-assisted tools and data integration methods
• Familiarity with PL/SQL and Oracle database tools is preferred but not required
• Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio and Azure Data Studio is preferred
