Role Description

The Department of Economic Security, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Community Competency Language Access Coordinator. DDD provides individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families, services and supports that are flexible, high quality, and member driven. These services provide individuals with opportunities to exercise their rights and responsibilities of independent decision-making and engagement in the community.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Job Duties

  • Identifies and maintains vital documents in prevalent languages and ensures DDD offices and staff have access for distribution to members. Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching of staff and team members.
  • Works with OEO to identify and implement reasonable modifications when requests cannot be fulfilled at the division level. Reports information about implemented reasonable modifications to OEO and coordinates with OEO to complete the annual ADA Title II survey.
  • Ensures quarterly audits of Language Vendors are complete.
  • Processes related to cultural competency, helps develop member and provider education materials, and interpreter and translation services. Assists in developing the Division's Cultural Competency Plan in collaboration with various function areas within the Division.
  • May serve as a bridge between the Division and cultural communities, resources, members, families, providers, community agencies, and other stakeholders. Advocates on behalf of cultural communities within the Division's systems of care.
  • May represent the Division during local and national Cultural Competency events. Acts as the Division’s point of contact for ADA-related, member-specific issues. Assists employees and contractors with providing reasonable modifications for clients with disabilities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge in Google Suite including Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Hangouts.
  • Knowledge of Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Knowledge of federal requirements related to Medicaid and Managed Care Organizations, state laws, rules, and regulations related to the Division of Developmental Disabilities and AHCCCS.
  • Knowledge of cultural and linguistic competency principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of systems of care and wraparound philosophy and practice, community-based services and support with an orientation to member-driven, guided, and culturally relevant systems and services.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office, conflict resolution, coaching, and cross-cultural communication.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and identify and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse members, staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Flexible, creative, assertive, and able to work in a multi-task and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to analyze various data reports, search, evaluate, and make decisions.
  • Ability to provide leadership to groups and individuals.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage time effectively.

Requirements

  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License. Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Employees may be required to use their own transportation and maintain valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
