Role Description

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center seeks a Computational Biologist in New York, NY to provide support to research projects by:

• Designing, developing, and implementing software tools for processing and analyzing high-throughput next-generation sequencing data.
• Providing one-on-one consultation and training to research scientists and bioinformatics and software engineers in the use of bioinformatics software tools and databases.
• Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation as part of the bioinformatics data processing and analysis system.
• Designing, developing, and operating software and databases as part of the bioinformatics data processing and analysis system.
• Providing consultation and guidance to research scientists as well as other bioinformatics and software engineers at the Center.

Full-time telecommuting permitted. EEO/VETS/ADA.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and 3 years of experience in the position offered or related; or
• Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and 5 years of experience in the position offered or related.

Requirements

• 3 years of experience with all of the following:
• Working with scripting languages including Perl and Python.
• Working with statistical programming including R.
• Working with data visualization techniques utilizing ggplot, RShiny, or seaborn.
• Working with Linux including shell scripting and command line tools.
• Utilizing HPC systems such as SLURM, LSF, or SGE.
• Utilizing principles of Genetics to perform bioinformatic data analysis.
• Utilizing NGS tools related to FASTQ, BAM, and VCF generation.
• Large-scale data organization and standardization.
• Experience with molecular biology including Cloning, PCR, and Pulldown assays.
• Must have coursework experience in next generation sequencing library preparation and sequencing principles.

Benefits

• Salary: $91,000 - $134,000/year
• Pay Range: $83,800.00 - $134,000.00
• FSLA Status: Exempt
