Role Description
Kemper is excited to being adding a Commercial Underwriter 1 to our team. Our Commercial Underwriter 1 will review all policy information to determine if the risk meets the Company’s underwriting guidelines and processes accordingly. Serves as a contact point for producers, insureds, and lienholders for policy related inquiries. Provides support for the call center.
- Effectively handle all incoming calls and follow up calls – up to 90% of shift handling calls.
- Analyze and underwrite low level customer risks within delegated authority levels to determine eligibility by reviewing new applications, existing business, reports, and customer information.
- Apply department underwriting guidelines and procedures.
- Process high volume policy change requests from internal and external customers.
- Assist with questions related to billing, compliance guidelines and procedures, rating inquiries, etc.
- Document and maintain accurate internal records based on established department record management procedures.
Qualifications
- Associate degree, AINS or similar with four (4) years related Property & Casualty experience preferred.
- High school diploma and four (4) years or more related Property & Casualty experience will be considered.
- Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills.
- Apply professional and effective phone skills.
- Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills.
- Ability to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced, high volume call center environment.
- Ability to use problem-solving and decision-making skills to help customers and process work.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Strong computer skills including typing, spreadsheets, word processing software and CRM applications.
- Must be dependable, and reliable.
- Work schedule may fluctuate based on business needs.
- Position is mostly remote. Occasional mandatory reporting to nearest local Kemper office for training and/or meetings.

- The range for this position is $46,400.00 - $77,300.00.
