Role Description

ThinkOn is seeking a skilled and motivated Cloud Platform Engineer to support the deployment, management, and ongoing operations of secure, multi-tenant VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x environments with GPU integration and edge deployments. This platform supports government workloads at the Protected B classification level and includes platform services such as Database as a Service (DBaaS), secrets management, centralized logging, and monitoring.

As a key member of the Secure Cloud Platforms team, you will be responsible for the lifecycle management of infrastructure and platform components across core and edge data centre sites, ensuring high availability, security, compliance, and operational excellence. This role requires a strong technical foundation in VMware technologies, Zero Trust principles, and infrastructure-as-code best practices.

It is a mandatory requirement for the position that the candidate must be eligible to obtain Canadian Secret Clearance. To meet this eligibility, the candidate must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident for at least 10 consecutive years and must have at least 10 years of verifiable background information. This is essential to ensure compliance with federal security standards and to support the sensitive nature of the projects involved. Candidates who do not meet this criteria will not be considered for the role.

You Will:

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware VCF 9.x environments including vSphere, vSAN, NSX-T, SDDC Manager, and GPU-enabled clusters.
  • Operate and manage platform-level services such as centralized logging (Splunk), monitoring (Zabbix), secrets management (HashiCorp Vault), and DBaaS.
  • Ensure secure operation of the environment in accordance with Zero Trust principles and Protected B requirements.
  • Manage network segmentation and enforce multi-tenant isolation across service delivery and platform layers.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, performance, and availability across core and edge sites.
  • Perform patch management, software upgrades, and infrastructure maintenance with minimal disruption.
  • Support integration of subscriber identity management systems (e.g., Microsoft Entra ID) for federated access.
  • Work collaboratively with security, compliance, and network teams to ensure alignment with organizational standards and regulatory obligations.
  • Create and maintain documentation, SOPs, and operational runbooks.
  • Participate in incident response and root cause analysis for platform-level issues.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, systems administration, or VMware-focused engineering roles.
  • Deep understanding of VMware VCF (vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN, SDDC Manager).
  • Experience with GPU compute environments (e.g., NVIDIA A100, L40) in virtualized infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture and its implementation in multi-tenant environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation (Ansible, PowerCLI, Terraform).
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Hands-on experience with platform observability (e.g., Splunk, Zabbix), secrets management (e.g., HashiCorp Vault), and SIEM/SOC workflows.
  • Strong knowledge of RBAC, federated identity systems (e.g., Entra ID/Azure AD), and secure access design.
  • Ability to manage complex systems across distributed environments (core + edge).
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident eligible for federal clearance.

Nice to Have

  • VMware certifications (VCAP, VCP-DCV, VCF Specialist).
  • Experience with infrastructure automation (Ansible, PowerCLI, Terraform).
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, PBMM, or ITSG-33.
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Previous experience supporting government or regulated environments.

Benefits

  • A remote-first culture.
  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Flexible time-off for vacation; 5 personal days/year.
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
  • A $500* Wellness & Learning allowance.
  • Eligible to join the ThinkOn Group Retirement Savings Plan.
  • Referral Bonuses for successful hires.
