[Hiring] Clinical Informatics Supervisor II @UCSF

Role Description

The California Department of Public Health Office of Data Strategy (ODS) is recruiting for a Clinical Informatics Supervisor II to lead the Systems, Integration, and Pipelines Unit. The incumbent will supervise data engineers and informaticists, oversee development of enterprise data pipelines, improve cloud-native architecture, and ensure accuracy, reliability, and interoperability of CDPH’s statewide data infrastructure.

• Contributing to the development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise data modernization projects, including cloud-native pipelines, data marts, and scalable ingestion frameworks.
• Improving interoperability of CDPH enterprise systems and integrating solutions with CDPH programs, Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs), and statewide partners to support analytics, operations, and public health decision-making.
• Leading project teams in developing enterprise data collection, transformation, governance, metadata, and access systems.
• Identifying and implementing strategies for improving existing CDPH enterprise data platforms, Lakehouse structures, and data governance frameworks.
• Supporting and leading development of informatics and data exchange processes for ODS data integration, transformation, access, governance, and operational reliability.
• Providing enterprise data engineering and informatics leadership and subject-matter expertise to ODS and CDPH programs.
• Participating in complex data analysis, data modeling, data quality assurance, and data quality improvement projects.
• Supporting administrative functions for ODS informatics and data engineering projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public health, health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
• Minimum 5+ years of directly related experience.
• Minimum 3+ years lead, supervisory and/or manager experience.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise, coordinate, and prioritize the activities of subordinate staff.
• Strong skills associated with statistical analysis, database management and systems programming, including SQL, R, and/or Python.
• Knowledge of enterprise data engineering, governance, metadata standards, data modeling, data integration, and distributed compute frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of clinical informatics analytics, controlled terminology, clinical workflows, user interface optimization, clinical decision support, data integration and mining, data governance, clinical ontologies and adoption of technology.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior management on operational and policy issues.
• Strong problem-resolution skills.
• Strong knowledge of human resources management policies.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Public Health, health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
• Detail oriented, with proven ability to effectively manage time and see projects through to completion.
• Demonstrated proficiency relating to logical data design, data warehouse design, data integration, and data modeling.
• 3 years of experience in computer or data pipeline programming and database management, OR 3 years working in public health.
