Role Description

We are looking for a Claims Consultant to join our team at Penn Mutual! In this role, you will serve as the subject matter expert in Inforce Claims Operations, working with minimal supervision. You will collaborate with project teams, business partners, key stakeholders, vendors, and management to identify, define, and recommend opportunities for improving claims processes. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in product implementations and new product initiatives, as well as analyze and research complex claims issues. As the department’s primary resource and technical expert, you will handle market conduct examination requests, complaints, appeals, litigation activities, and pending legal matters, ensuring that current claims processes align with legislative and regulatory changes.

Role Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain superior customer relationships by proactively gathering information from customers to assess their specific needs.
  • Customize service and claims communications to meet/exceed customer expectations resulting in a positive customer experience.
  • Collaborate across all lines of business to achieve superior business results.
  • Review, analyze, and resolve complex or escalated claims issues, correspondence, and service requests by conducting thorough research and taking appropriate action to achieve successful business outcomes.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and trainer/mentor/coach for various internal and external customers; provide work direction, respond to claims inquiries, and ensure high quality standards are achieved.
  • Leads and/or participates in team and department projects, market conduct examinations, audits, complaints, appeals, and litigation related activities.
  • Provide technical expertise and collaboration on legislative assignments and new product rollout initiatives as required to meet claims' needs.
  • Influence business results and customer behaviors by proactively monitoring claim trends, workload projections, staffing projections and identifying opportunities for learning and recommending process improvements.
  • Ensure a high-quality claims adjudication process by exercising sound judgment in conducting thorough investigations, validating and approving claims, assessing risk and controls, and making regulatory-impact decisions within a risk-based quality framework.
  • Manage claim tax requirements in collaboration with the operations tax team.
  • Develop, write, and maintain various standard operating procedures (SOPs) and correspondence that are both internal and external facing to ensure clarity, consistency, and efficiency in workflows and processes.

  • Strong customer service mindset as demonstrated through previous experience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • 5-7 years of claims experience required, 7 - 10 years preferred.
  • Claims industry designations (FLMI, Series 6 or 26, HIAA) is preferred.

Salary

  • Base Salary Range - $71,500 - $95,000.
