Role Description

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Computer Systems Architect to serve as the Business Capability Architect - Mission Focused. The selected candidate will own the current-state and target-state architecture for a combined mission-focused capability portfolio spanning Product Development, Product Support, and Manufacturing Management across the enterprise.

The Mission Focused Business Capability Architect is responsible for guiding capability evolution across:

• Engineering and product-development workflows
• Sustainment and support processes
• Manufacturing-management operations
• Related data, platforms, and integration patterns

This role sits within Strategy and Architecture, part of the Governance & Strategy organization in the Chief Information & Digital Office, and serves as a capability-aligned architecture role spanning organizational boundaries, solution portfolios, and enabling functions rather than a single project or system.

The successful candidate will:

• Own the current-state and target-state architecture for the mission-focused capability portfolio.
• Define capability roadmaps spanning platforms, workflows, data exchanges, operating processes, and modernization initiatives.
• Partner with various stakeholders to improve coherence in mission-focused decisions.
• Help translate enterprise architecture direction into practical capability priorities.

This position will be available as a virtual telecommuter; however, the incumbent must be within 90 miles of a major Northrop Grumman location for ad hoc onsite meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related field and 12+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 10+ years, or PhD with 8+ years.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret level security clearance.
• Strong experience in architecture for business capabilities, product lifecycle environments, engineering or manufacturing ecosystems, sustainment or support processes, or complex cross-functional portfolios.
• Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries.
• Experience creating roadmaps, patterns, and architecture guidance across multiple solutions.
• Strong stakeholder-management and influence skills.
• Ability to operate as both strategist and practical architectural guide.
• Experience in regulated, security-conscious, or compliance-driven environments.
• Knowledge of TOGAF ADM or other Architecture Frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of the Aerospace and Defense business domain.

Requirements

• Prior experience in enterprise, business, domain, or capability architecture roles.
• Experience supporting product development, engineering data management, sustainment, service or logistics support, manufacturing operations, or related processes.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, federal, or similarly regulated environments.
• Experience mentoring delivery architects while maintaining common architecture standards.
• Ability to connect business capability planning with operational execution.
• Experience working with matrixed stakeholders across various functions.
