1wk ago - GDG on Campus | University of Sydney is hiring a remote Bioinformatician. πΈ Salary: aud 89,831 - 121,054 per year πLocation: Australia
Role Description
This is a 3-year part-time (0.2-0.4 FTE) opportunity for a dedicated Bioinformatician with the possibility for extension. The Centre for Organ Assessment, Repair & Optimisation (COARO) is seeking a Bioinformatician to contribute to a rapidly expanding program of world-leading translational biomedical research focused on organ assessment, repair, regeneration, and optimisation.
COARO has developed a unique long-term ex vivo organ preservation platform capable of maintaining human organs under near-physiological conditions for extended periods, creating an unprecedented opportunity to study metabolic adaptation, sustained repair, and functional recovery over clinically meaningful timescales. The program is entering a significant growth phase, including progression toward first-in-human clinical translation.
Within this ambitious and multidisciplinary research environment, the Bioinformatician will play a critical intellectual role in shaping experimental design, analytical strategy, and scientific interpretation across multiple concurrent projects. This is not a purely technical data-processing position; rather, it is designed for a statistician who values close scientific collaboration, engages deeply with biological and clinical questions, and contributes meaningfully to high-impact peer-reviewed publications.
The successful candidate will work alongside laboratory scientists, engineers, clinicians, and PhD students to ensure that statistical reasoning is embedded from project conception through to publication. Statistical input will be expected to influence study design, mechanistic interpretation, including multi-omic data, and the broader understanding of sustained organ repair and regeneration within complex ex vivo systems.
COARO is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Bioinformatician to support the delivery of high-quality clinical diagnostics through the development, validation and maintenance of advanced bioinformatics workflows. This role is central to enhancing laboratory efficiency, data integrity and analytical accuracy by implementing automated pipelines, optimising computational processes and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
This is a part-time position with flexible hours. Remote work is available for the right candidate.
