Role Description

The Associate Director will regularly interact with Senior Directors, Directors, other Associate Directors, and the Exec Team on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers. This person is responsible for strategic direction, quality assurance, and execution within all mechanical BIM operations across the Design Department. This role works closely with other discipline BIM leaders and the Executive Team to develop, refine, and execute BIM standards, technology strategies, and delivery workflows that advance the firm’s digital design and coordination capabilities. The BIM Associate Director oversees the performance, training, and growth of mechanical BIM users, ensuring that project execution aligns with DLB’s standards of technical accuracy, constructability, and client value. This individual plays a key role in cross-departmental collaboration, digital transformation initiatives, and project delivery excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of thirteen (13) years of experience in mechanical design and BIM management.
• Demonstrated leadership in BIM implementation across multiple projects and teams.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent registration preferred.
• Autodesk Revit Professional Certification or equivalent experience required.

• Advanced understanding of BIM processes, standards, and integrated design delivery.
• Strong technical foundation in HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems design within the BIM environment.
• Advanced knowledge of BIM software ecosystems and digital collaboration platforms.
• Understanding of model data structures, interoperability, and visualization for decision-making.
• Expert skill in leading multi-disciplinary BIM teams and coordinating with project leadership.
• Advanced skill in creating and implementing digital workflows and automation tools.
• Advanced ability to maintain model accuracy, compliance, and consistency across projects.
• Skilled in developing and delivering BIM education and competency programs.
• Ability to derive insights from model data to inform design and operational strategy.
• Ability to align BIM initiatives with organizational and client goals.
• Capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, technology-driven environment.
• Excellent ability to convey complex digital concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to anticipate and implement emerging technologies to improve performance and value.
• Skilled at leading teams through technological transformation.
