[Hiring] Advanced Electronics HW-PL-Specialty Division Lead @Viasat, Inc.

Role Description

We are seeking an accomplished engineering leader to join the VGOV Advanced Electronics organization. In this role, you will be a working leader—both guiding a multidisciplinary division of Hardware/Digital, Programmable Logic (PL), and Specialty Engineers and directly contributing your technical expertise to projects, proposals, and critical business initiatives.

• Ensure engineering resources are aligned to evolving VGOV development needs.
• Make balanced decisions that are good for engineers, product and program teams, the VGOV business, and Viasat as a whole.
• Act as a trusted resource and mentor for engineers across the division.
• Play an active, hands-on role in supporting programs and business development efforts.

Engineering Disciplines You Will Oversee

• Hardware / Digital Engineering: Design digital circuitry including discrete logic, microprocessors, and high-speed interfaces.
• Programmable Logic (PL) Engineering: Implement complex digital functions within FPGAs using HDL languages.
• Specialty Engineering Disciplines:
  • Power & Analog Engineering: Design analog circuitry and power converters.
  • Design Verification Engineering: Develop tools to simulate and mitigate design issues.
  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineering: Create signal-processing algorithms for communications and radar.
  • Design Implementation (Backend) Engineering: Convert RTL into integrated circuits.
  • Radiation Engineering: Analyze susceptibility of components to space radiation effects.
  • Parts, Materials & Process (PMP) Engineering: Define processes for part selection and testing.
  • PCB Fabrication Engineering: Provide fabrication expertise and influence PCB design considerations.

The day-to-day

• Organizational Design: Contribute to the evolution of the VGOV Development Engineering organization.
• Leadership & Management: Lead a geographically dispersed team of engineers and managers.
• Staffing & Hiring: Meet HW-PL-Specialty staffing needs efficiently.
• Engineering Maturity & Process Improvement: Continuously improve engineering processes.
• Performance Management: Ensure effective performance management across the division.
• Career Development & Mentoring: Foster an environment for meaningful technical and career development goals.
• Technical Contributions: Serve as a strong technical resource for teams and programs.
• Direct Work: Perform hands-on technical work impacting programs and engineering quality.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated success leading engineering teams and engineering managers.
• Strong technical competence within your primary engineering discipline.
• Strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate strategy into execution.
• Data-driven mindset—skilled at forming meaningful questions and using data to guide actions.
• Experience collaborating effectively with distributed teams across time zones and cultures.
• Genuine optimism about VGOV and Viasat’s future and a commitment to shared success.
• Up to 10% travel.
• US Citizenship Required.

Requirements

• 10 years experience managing dispersed engineering teams.
• Active U.S. Secret Clearance or higher.

Benefits

• Salary range: $177,500.00 - $280,000.00 / annually.
• For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area, and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is $220,500.00 - $330,500.00 / annually.
• Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
• Additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package.
