At Rural Innovation Strategies, Inc (RISI), we believe in rural ingenuity and small-town potential, which is why we work closely with our sister organization, the Center On Rural Innovation (CORI), to advance inclusive economic prosperity and investment in rural America.
Founded in 2017, we are a dynamic and rapidly growing organization that takes a comprehensive approach to digital economic development and entrepreneurship. Our committed and collaborative team uses data-driven strategies to build capacity for a nationwide network of local change agents committed to creating sustainable digital economy ecosystems in their communities. These ecosystems center around innovation hubs that offer digital-job skills training for the “future of work,” coworking spaces, remote/distributed work opportunities, support for entrepreneurs scaling tech-enabled startups, access to capital through the CORI Innovation Fund, and strategies to build local amenities and cultural resources. RISI also works to ensure that our digital economy ecosystems are fully inclusive, creating opportunity for individuals historically excluded from technology careers while pushing back on the narrative that America’s small towns are uniformly white.
Leveraging contracts with the US Economic Development Administration, US Department of Agriculture, and working closely with CORI to engage philanthropic partners such as the Siegel Family Endowment, Walmart, Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth and LinkedIn Founder Reid Hoffman, RISI and CORI are dedicated to closing the rural opportunity gap and changing the conversation about what is possible in small towns and communities across the country.
RISI and CORI are headquartered in a historic general store building in the village of Hartland, Vermont, part of the Upper Valley and greater Dartmouth College region.
