[Hiring] Web Frontend Engineer @Takealot Group

Role Description

Join our web development team responsible for maintaining and developing multiple production applications using modern Angular and SvelteKit.

• Write performant, optimized code that scales with our growing user base.
• Contribute to automated testing efforts to reduce regression bugs and improve coverage.
• Participate in (and invite!) code reviews to maintain high code quality standards.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, UX Designers, and QA teams on feature delivery.
• Debug complex issues across the frontend/backend boundary.
• Deploy features through our CI/CD pipeline (QA → Pre-Production → Production).
• Leverage AI tools (LLMs, GitHub Copilot, custom agents) to accelerate development and help shape our shift toward AI-assisted workflows.
• Help establish development processes that stick - particularly around code review.
• Provide accurate estimates and deliver on commitments.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 3-4 years of focused, continuous experience in JavaScript or similar languages.
• Strong grasp of modern JavaScript (ES6+).
• Adding well-defined types in TypeScript.
• Backend experience with Node.js.
• Mastery of CSS and understanding how it works.
• Understanding of DOM events and browser workings.
• API integration knowledge, including CORS and debugging requests.
• Understanding of testing philosophy and types of tests to write.
• Proficiency in Git and branching strategies like Gitflow.
• Performance optimization as a default practice.
• Responsive design implementation.
• Ability to converse effectively with LLMs and leverage AI tools in development.
• Understanding the importance of good estimates and the ability to provide them.

Requirements

• Experience with modern Angular or SvelteKit (or genuine interest in learning them).
• Experience building backend APIs with Express.js or similar Node frameworks.
• Basic understanding of Docker concepts and multi-platform builds.
• Understanding of how requests travel and the impact of load balancers and reverse proxies.
• Knowledge of Playwright or Selenium for E2E testing.
• Proactively inviting peers to review your code.
• Keeping overall team output in mind (speed AND quality).
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Knowledge of gRPC / Protocol Buffers.
• Experience with GitHub Actions.
• Experience with AWS services (S3, ECR, CloudFront, etc.).
• Practice in Test-Driven Development (TDD).
