[Hiring] Staff Software Engineer @Elation Health

Role Description

Elation is hiring full-stack engineers for our billing team. Billing is a challenging domain, and we want to make it simple for our customers regardless of their payer arrangements. You'll design, build, and run systems that:

• Balance financial transactions between insurance, patients, and the practice.
• Work with inconsistent data from outside partners and handle edge cases well.
• Ship AI features that real users depend on and determine when they're wrong.
• Improve a mature codebase while customers are using it every day.
• Own your work in production and collaborate with Support when issues arise.
• Collaborate with product and design to identify and implement improvements rapidly.

Your first 60 days will involve:

• Shipping something to production.
• Scoping and building a new feature with Product and Design.
• Learning our stack and enough of the billing domain to be functional.
• Joining code reviews and production support.
• Engaging with customers and learning from their feedback.

6–12 months in, you will:

• Own big features, collaborating with design and product stakeholders through deployment.
• Help set technical direction for your team on problems you own.
• Be recognized by support teams, product owners, and sales representatives for resolving production issues quickly.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development (8+ for Staff, including technical leadership).
• Production experience building and running backend services and APIs.
• Comfortable working across the stack and in more than one language.
• Experience with alerting/observability/instrumentation for real production solutions.
• Clear communicator with technical and non-technical people.
• Interest in building with LLMs.

Requirements

• Nice to have:
• Experience building production features with LLMs or machine learning.
• A data-driven mentality.
• Python and/or PHP, and MySQL.
• TypeScript and React.
• Payments, financial, or ledger systems.
• Event-driven or distributed systems on AWS.
• Observability and DevOps.
• US healthcare, especially medical billing or claims.

• Salary: $170,000 - $200,000k/yr USD OR $185,000 - $215,000k/yr CAD.
