[Hiring] Staff Backend Software Engineer @Grafana Labs

Role Description

This role is available for candidates located in Australia or Singapore.

The Opportunity:

• Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana.
• Allows customers to leverage the best open source observability software without the overhead of installing, maintaining, and scaling their own observability stack.
• The Databases team owns the telemetry databases that are:
  • Mimir for metrics
  • Loki for logs
  • Tempo for traces
  • Pyroscope for profiles
• Our databases are OSS projects offered as a Cloud service supporting Grafana Cloud and as an on-premise solution.
• Multi-tenant distributed systems implemented in Go and running on Kubernetes across all major Cloud service providers (GCP, Azure, AWS).
• Engineers also work on Prometheus, Grafana Alloy, Mimir proxies, and OpenTelemetry.
• Remote-first and global company culture embracing diverse teams.
• Tech stack primarily consists of services written in Go, running on multiple Kubernetes clusters leveraging Cloud object storage.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning reliability, performance, and availability.
• Influence our roadmap and your own career objectives.
• Work with your team to deliver new features and iterate for improvement.
• Drive projects from ideation to operations once in customers' hands.
• Contribute to other projects beyond your team’s scope.
• Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of services.
• Mentor and support team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate.
• Learn new skills and gain a deeper understanding of our cloud product and customers.
• Maintain good communication skills in a remote setup.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Solid experience with at least one programming language (Go preferred, but Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar are acceptable).
• Some experience with delivering projects from requirements gathering to shipping products.
• Experience with developing software that runs in the Cloud or systems engineering.
• Experience writing clean, robust, and performant software.

Bonus Points For

• Experience writing low-level code for databases, storage layers, or query engines.
• Experience working with Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with Grafana and/or Prometheus in operational roles.
• Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with being on-call and performing operations/SRE tasks.

Compensation & Rewards

• Base compensation range in Singapore: SGD 167,000 to SGD 209,000.
• Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset.
