[Hiring] Software Engineer, Web Infrastructure @Airbnb

Role Description

The Web Platform’s mission is to empower engineers at Airbnb working within our TypeScript monorepo to deliver innovative features with high velocity and quality, by providing foundational libraries, frameworks, and tools for development, testing, and release, while increasingly enabling developer productivity through AI-powered tooling (e.g., Claude, Codex).

Critical to achieving this is providing Airbnb’s web developers with high quality tools tailored to Airbnb’s unique needs. A key priority is delivering a best-in-class, out-of-the-box developer experience, where AI-assisted workflows, strong defaults, and clear patterns enable engineers to move faster with confidence.

A typical day includes:

• Contributing across the team’s surface areas to directly move core metrics (developer experience, developer velocity, debuggability, performance, and reliability) while reducing cost and providing new functionality.
• Partnering with Airbnb product teams to understand their pain points, pilot proposed solutions, and encourage adoption of tools and frameworks.
• Collaborating with a wide variety of infrastructure teams as well as supporting product foundation teams.
• Participating in all phases of software development from architecture/design through implementation, testing, and on-call.
• Supporting teammates in enabling code quality, operational excellence, and shared learning.

Qualifications

• 2–4+ years of experience in a hands-on software engineering role, including frontend web development.
• Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Interest in harnessing AI tools (like Claude Code and Codex) to modernize and expedite development practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work closely with other engineering teams across complex interfaces.
• Love of collaborating via code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Interest in working with IDE infrastructure, such as: VS Code plugins or language servers, or Claude Code skills and MCP servers.
• [Bonus] Experience (beyond configuration) working with bundlers, testing frameworks, editor integrations, frontend build/CI systems, observability tooling, or developer environments.

Requirements

• This position is US - Remote Eligible.
• The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
• You must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Benefits

• Base pay range: $162,000 — $190,000 USD.
• This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
